I've heard LCD TVs have this, but how loud is it supposed to be?! It's very noticeable in quieter moments of programmes. Is this just an issue you have to live with on LCDs, or is it a fault?

Mmmm.....is this hum high or low pitched? If it's high my first guess would be your signal is too inductive......if you have a very long aeriel cable try shortening it. If it sounds a bit like a fly then that's your transformer you can hear. there are three reasons it could be making a noise; either it's a design flaw, or the transformer is a bit loose, or you've got the telly sitting on something that amplifies transformer noise like a chest of drawers. My suggestion would be take the telly off of its support, put it on a carpeted floor and if it persists go to the shop where you bought it and see if the display model does the same.

Hum or buzzing on sound really drive people demented,If you have checked out all external items like aerial or set top box etc then the chances are this is inherent in the TV and in my experience it is better to change the TV completly to a different model.

There is no noticeable hum on my Panasonic LCD - I would think your LCD is faulty.
