Move to Northamptonshire. It's not a million miles from Essex so you can still visit but the air is a lot cleaner. We used to live in Middlesex and my daughter was on an asthma inhaler about 20 times a day and now we live in Northants she barely uses it at all. And the schools are pretty good. And there is quite a bit of work about. The county is very rural and so a smallholding would be possible. However, I believe it is the furthest from the sea that you can get in the UK so this could be a drawback.

Try looking at the tourist websites for any area where you are proposing to move to to give a good idea of what it's like there.

Wales is fairly cheap compared to Essex prices, and the coastline is beautiful, but I don't think employment is that plentiful unless you're planning on recreating the 'Good Life'!
Cornwall is an ideal place to raise children, but again their future employment prospects should really be considered, and its getting pricey there too...
I know what you mean though..I thought about leaving Essex as all you ever see are crowds of bored kids hanging around getting up to mischeive...

New Zealand, honestly being under the realm of the United Kingdom you will find it one of the easiest countries to emmagrate to, also the bonus is, is great for kids to grow up and if you sell you terrace town house here, over there you'll get a big garden, swimming pool and great house for the same price.

Most people who I know that have moved over now, don't have a morgage.

It is an island of beautiful scenery, outdoor pursuits, sunshine at christmas and wonderful wild life. You children will love it and everyone out there loves an English accent so what are you waiting for......?

One of the first issues is how you're going to maintain your income. Where can you get work etc.

The further "Up North" you go, the cheaper housing tends to be; though idylic small holdings, sea side properties are always going to costs fortune.

I live in Yorkshire; which is a lovely county; as is Shropshire (Lived there as well). Though Yorkshire has a better share of employment and solitude.

Wales is good- you can get both sea or countryside there, depending on which area you choose. It is a much slower way of life and lots of beautiful scenery. Property prices are still very cheap in some areas.

I am not sure where Essex is, but the Northwest area in America is beautiful and children friendly.

Change is always nice, moving with our children can be a trying but is doable, even the best plans can go astray.

You can house/apartment hunt on the internet...Try this link to begin your search.

You can put in the things you are looking, longing for and it will give you great locations.

Make and plan and go for it. Good luck!

if you sell up in essex you should have the cash to buy a small holding, on the scottish mainland or on the islands' great schools
short waiting list for hospital appointments, and very friendly people
