If you are using Windows XP, then press Window Start button+R, then type ntbackup and hit enter. Then follow the backup wizard. You must have a place to back your files on e.g. an external hard drive

That depends. What Operating System (O/S) are you using? If you are using Windows XP, then click Start > Run... then type ntbackup and hit enter. Then follow the backup wizard. Just make sure you have somewhere to back the files up to.

For backing up I use Acronis True Image and can recommend it to you. With this program I backup my OS and important files to the DVDs, so even after any disaster I can restore my OS and other files. I'm quite pleased with this program because it saves space when creating backups by only backing up the types of files I want to keep, I can continue to use my PC during backups, it is easy to configure and use and has friendly interface.
