I call people honey or sweetie as a natural term but some take it as I fancy them?

Because "honey" and "sweetie" are also popular pet names for lovers.
I've heard it used in other contexts only between siblings (or other family members) and when an older person adresses a younger person, so I'd think if the person you're calling that aren't one of those, it's only natural for them to think you fancy them, more so if they are desperate to hear someone finally call them that in that context.

The same when you call people darling or love. I guess some people take the words as a serious meaning.

while I know most women and stuff do that, even when you don't know them, some people might just be joking, or maybe they're just desperate. If they really think you like them, they have obviously never heard another woman talk like that.
