Brubum you are wrong. It is illeagal for anyone to run a license plate, name, drivers license, etc. through the NCIC without having some sort of reason to run it. Believe it or not they actually audit the NCIC at random for that reason. That way Officer "Snuffy" who went out on a hot date last night and wants to find out more about her past by running her name through the NCIC out of curiosity will get fired and his dept. will more than likely lose access to the NCIC.

It depends on how technolicic the police department has advance ( how much money they got to spend on high tech high speed equipment) and if they have installed computers in there patrol cars and if the computer in the cars have network asscecc and so on so forth. if they do then they can pretty much get the info from the computer pretty quick if not they have to do it the old fasion way i did when i was a Police Officer we had to radio the tag and state over the radio to a dispatcher who was at a building with computer acess and the dispatcher would read the info from the computer to us over the radio, Many smaller police departments still use this older method. but it still works. But wether the police use the old way or the newer quicker way they still have pretty fast access to any tag or license info from any state and even limited outa country tag info

There are programs on the market that can do this. Plus you can just type your name in and find out the persons address and phone number on the net too. There is many ways to find out where you live without asking a police officers to run your plates.

Sorry, but shrtcke_oz is WRONG. A license plate is a public documet. (Actually in public view, on your car) There is nothing stopping a cop from running any plate they see on the road. Basically it is public information on display for the whole world to see. I suggest that if you are worried about someone finding out where you live, that you get a PO Box and register your vehicle to it instead of your home address.

If I run somebodies plate then I can see who else ran that same plate for the period of a month. It is against most policies for a police officer to run a plate for personal gain.

that is definitely illegal. Police can not run your license plate without legitimate reason, as far as you figuring it out without calling the county's department and notifying them of such suspicion, you're not going to find out, actually either way you are not going to find out, i believe that is kept within themselves
