Don't be daft! He is no more bred to run on dirt than I am! Danehill only ever ran on turf and so did his dam Bordighera. Danehill horses have a dodgy record on dirt - look at how badly Dylan Thomas ran the other week.
Even Aiden O'Brien has said that the dirt is the main problem for GW.
There are always exceptions to the rule, and I for one will be very happy of GW does win the Classic, but the fact is he is NOT bred to run on dirt. 10-1 is a very respectable price for a horse that has never run on dirt before and is not bred for the job.
Have you seen any of Bernadini's races - the current favourite for the Classic? Now there is a horse that goes on dirt!
Coolmore are running him as the upside outweighs the downside. If he runs a stinker, oh well he is a Classic-winning miler on turf and is entitled to his place at stud. If he wins, his profile in the USA will shoot through the roof and US breeders will be clamouring to send their mares to him.
I do like the horse a great deal, I was a big fan of his brother Grandera too, but to call him the best horse in the world is taking it a bit too far at this stage. To be the best you must beat the best. Let's see how things go on Saturday before we start the coronation, who knows we may all be singing Hail To the Chief!

The oddsmaker who makes the morning line odds gives the odds that he thinks the horse will go off at when betting opens. It isn't necessarily a reflection of how well the oddsmaker thinks the horse will run.
George Washington is a European horse running on the dirt for the first time. Most of the people betting on the Classic aren't going to be familiar with his European form and how it compares to the form of the US-raced horses; and bettors in the know avoid betting on a horse being asked to do something he's never done before-- in this case, run over a dirt track.
"Gorgeous George" is undoubtedly talented, but he also has a reputation for being very temperamental. His antics in Europe are very well documented. If he is put off by the strangeness of his new environment, the feel of the track, or any of the other things he'll encounter, it's fully in the cards that he may spit the bit out and decide not to try.
Also, let's not forget that "Gorgeous George" is facing a potential superhorse in Bernardini. Bernardini has done everything asked of him, and done it easily. He's definitely the "chalk" in the Classic.
Coolmore is willing to take the risk with "George" because if he gets beaten, he has abundant excuses and it should do no harm to his value at stud in the European market. If he wins, it enhances his value and the value of his offspring in the American market. So they're willing to give him his chance.
I think the chances of winning if the "'real' Gorgeous George" shows up are good, but if the temperamental "George" is the one who goes to post, it's in the cards that he could trail the field home by twenty lengths or more. We just have to see.

Easy, it is simple to say that George Washington is proven as a "miler" going for 1 1/4 mile.

He might have been bred to run on dirt but he has not proved himself on it, he'll be up against homegrown horses that never raced on anything else. But i agree he is fantastic horse.

Dont worry about it now, when he runs on his better ground, his odds will be better for us, as his form will have a loss next to it. Save ya hard earned and get on him when hes back here.

Dirt track, tight turns, 150,000 people, and a dirt track. If he ran on grass, he would be odds on.

He's never run in the U.S. and he's never run on the dirt. Bernardini looks so good on paper.
