It is very unlikely that a cola drink would help such problems. The food probably was not actually bad but some tainted. The acid in the stomach is much stronger than the acid in the cola.

Carbonated drinks can have a bad affect on the stomach. The carbonation tends to destroy the lining and could lead to ulcers.

As a matter of fact, they used to make coca cola syrup and sold it just for stomach medicine. I have given coca cola to kids that have upset stomachs and they said it made them feel better. It has also worked for me many times in the past. No coincidence!

For what its worth, My mother used to drink Coca Cola for upset stomach. (Pepsi and other sodas didnt work). What she would do is pour a can into a glass and stir it until the carbon/fizz was removed and then drink. Worked just great for her.
