I do not feel that we are being swamped. We need this work force. We have a large majority of our able bodied men and women fighting a never ending war in Iraq. We need to secure our borders and rebuild this beaurocratic immigration system. As I have mentioned many times before. ICE.... INS.... whatever they call themselves these days needs to be completely torn down and edified with specific departments with specific job details... They must be held accountable for their work ethics. You for example as a law abiding citizen (hopefully) do not have racist reasons for reporting someone does not even know who to report them too.... This bureaucratic monster of a department does not serve the Public in its work... nor does it serve its purpose in granting work permits for those who have applied.... what good are they? They have the attitude that I will get to them when I get to them not just to the people who they are supposed to serve .... But to the USA citizen who in essence supplies them with that paycheck that they do not earn..... Heads up...... Rebuild this monster of a department while building this wall across the border. No the illegals did not create low wage jobs. They have always been here. Furthermore if we raise all of the low paying jobs salaries up to $10.00 an hour you will wipe out middle class America. Who could afford to pay $10.00 a lb for chicken? I don't wish to offend you but I do wish to inform you..... There is no TAX Free money in regards to the majority of the illegals.... unless they work in cash paying jobs ... like construction for example... Lots of people hide in the construction business for that very reason..... illegals are just working in construction. We have American dead beat dads who work in it too so they get easy money under the table as we call it so as not to pay child support. Most industries pay with payroll checks. If an illegal works in an industry that does pay with payroll checks then the appropriate federal and state taxes are removed. I recently did a spot check on payroll checks from the main industry in my town from 4 different illegal pay stubs..... 2 from poultry and 2 from restaurants. I did an estimate based on those 4 pay stubs in regards to the shifts worked at each one of those industries. I had an estimate of State taxes paid in to my state of $64,000.00. I did not figure up the Federal Taxes but you best believe that they have been raking it in also. Please keep in mind that the county that I live in is not ranked among the largest in my state. I would love to be able to do a State wide survey, but the problem is getting people to trust you not to use their information against them. You may be surprised to also be informed that at least 2 of these people had health insurance for which they paid for & utilized, they also had an additional voluntary $5.00 taken out each week as a donation for United Way Fund. I did no guesstimates on those donations, but just these 2 people alone donate a solid figure of $520.00 @ year which has to be noted as community service. IT WAS A REAL EYE OPENER TO ME. Please understand that the illegal does not file federal income taxes.... he does fall in a low income category and would be eligible to receive most of his tax money paid in as refunds... now do you really think that our government wants to make them legal so they have to give that money back ..... NO, of course not. The fence is going to be a joke. Who cares build the fence. The American public has clamored that they wish for this atrocity to be built. Then once all those billions of dollars are sunk into the building of this shameful wall......there will be no money for mass deportations...You see this is why the government is building this wall... We all know that it will not serve the purpose for which it is built....They didn't even build a levy that could protect New Orleans..... the illegals crossing are just as unpredictable.....Build the fence so they will be able to say later well we don't have the money now for deportations.......Also you will see discounts on ladders on the other side of the border. You just need a ladder to safely scale the wall without a scratch. .THE POLITICIANS DO NOT WANT TO SEND THE ILLEGAL BACK

Yes.

There are skilled qualified British people finding it hard to get work because the employers would prefer to employ a Pole who'll work for £4 an hour and won't demand "unreasonable" things like fair treatment at work.

It makes me sick to hear of immigrants coming here and claming tax credits and benefits when there are British people who've been paying tax all their lives iving on the breadline.

As for this crap about them doing "the jobs Brits won't do" - well most of the local people I know here in South Wales are bus driver, barmen, waiters, work in supermarkets or McDonalds, call centres, labourers etc. Many are qualified to do much more but the jobs just aren't there (not enough of them to go around anyway). So they have to make do with poorly paid work because they don't want or can't afford to cope on the dole (if they have a mortgage for instance).

There is not enough social and council housing to ensure that low imcone families can afford to house themselves. And what there is is often being taken by imigrants and asylum seekers.

Immigrants are just making the situation worse. Why are they treating this country as a place to make a quick buck?

A bunch of eastern europeans recently came into the pub my BF works in, waving huge wads of cash about and "boasting" how easy it was to get work and how they didn't have to pay mortgage or council tax etc and how "lazy" the Brits are. They just about escaped with all their facial features still in their original positions - the locals were NOT happy.

Need I say more.

Perhaps Tony and his cronies should take note. The Poles won't be voting in the next election but the pissed off locals will be.

no, not being swamped. WE ARE SWAMPED,
and look what it has done to us, not enough jobs, schools, housing, a crumbling NHS and benefit system, all of which has been paid for by OUR taxes and abused by anyone and everyone who have come here from other countries and have not contributed a single penny.
asylum means taking refuge in a safe place, it does not mean they all have to come to england, they have to pass through many other safe countries before they get here, ( remember we are an island that stands on it's own ), but they come here because they know before they leave their own countries that we are a soft touch.
as for the others that come here,( for a better life ), how the hell do they think we were able to have that life ( which i hasten to add has now been taken from us due to all the over crowding ).
it was by working hard and paying for every thing we had, not by going to another country to see what we could get from it.
but never mind one day they will stop coming here, when they have bled us totally dry and we have nothing left to give, and nothing left for ourselves.

no. in fact, we are a country largely made up of immigrants, with a history of invasions, both peaceful and not, dating back thousands of years. the current influx stands out for three reasons: it is larger in absolute terms than any previous intake, (though still rather small as a % of the whole population, and about 8% right now), somatic characteristics - skin colour, ethnicity etc. - make this latest cohort rather more visible to the man in the street, and, finally, the operating dynamic underlying the movement of so many people is unprecedented in terms of its global reach and scale. there are lots of positive things to be said in favour of immigration, however. we are rich, and our birthrate is too low to replace our population. immigrants serve a useful function here. there is no fixed number of jobs available in the uk, and immigrants, whilst taking some, are instrumental in the creation of many others. thus far the net effect has been positive. it's kind of flattering, or so it seems to me, that they want to come and live here, rather than the other way around. as for the future, it's hard to predict, but two things are certain: protectionist measures will not work - the market will decide, irrespective of government policy - and such measures will only serve to poison the political atmosphere. there is plenty of evidence to suggest that this is happening already. the use, for example, of the word 'swamped' in your question. relax, we are not being swamped.

I wouldn't use the term swamped but i do feel that some of these so called asylum seekers are passing through a lot of other safe european countries to get to us. Isn't it funny that the 1800's the immigration was all going to america and yet today britain - a much smaller island is being inundated. people want work but there are barely enough jobs for our own unemployed (those willing to work, that is)

It depends on your perception. Are there more immigrants than we have ever known? Yes. Are they all spongers and scroungers on the state? No. Do we have an influx of Immigrants who are doing jobs we would not do ( cockle picking for next to nothing pay )? Yes. Are we being overrun by immigrants who are either taking our jobs or sponging of the state, that depends on what paper you read and believe.

Employers are desperate for workers (legitimate jobs not on the black) and we have over 5 million odd on the dole and long term sick. The lazy gits who shout about emigration are the ones that cause it. I wonder they can sleep in there racist beds knowing if it wasn't for a emigrant there beloved benefits would stop
