(I do not care either way anyone can celebrate if they want to my choice is personal. Our prophet said is nice to celebrate happy occacions that do not go against the religion and are for the sake of God)

Sometimes my family celebrates my birthday but i don't make anything out of it. I also don't think bad of anyone who celebrates their birthday. It's supposed to be a happy day, especially for kids. I especially don't like it when Muslims preach being anti-birthday because they are a bit extreme in my opinion. Let people have fun!
I'm not saying you are like that (i hope you're not).

I have heard both sides to this debate and I fall in between. We have 2 Eids and thats it. So I don't make my birthday like an Eid. But saying happy birthday or maybe a gift and card I do. I don't have a party or make it a big deal, but something small is ok with me, preferably a day before or after. I think the world celebration here is the thing. Celebrating it like Eid is were it is really haram. But I do agree that it is better to be safe then sorry. I am just not ready to totally give it up, but I agree celebrating it is not part of the Sunnah. Well like I said before celebrating it like it is Eid is not part of the Sunnah. Allah knows

Yeah I celebrate. It doesn't have anything to do with religion. Every year I am 1 year older and wiser..... Why shouldn't I celebrate. Look at all the things I learned and done within a year.

For God sake my dear sister don’t see every little things in the light of religion. Please don’t poke the nose of religion into every thing. There is no relation of celebrating birthday with islam. Its connected with ur social values and norms and local customs.
No religion ask u not to celebrate any happiness. If the party is simple and no wastage of time and money plus no show off of ur wealth then why not to celebrate every happeniss. Life is short enjoy ur life

I don't celebrate my birthday, because it is of no meaning in life.
It now becomes a release to my relatives, my dear friends and intimate acquaintants who already have too many things to remember. And it is also a release for me when my age is cutting down my memory that I fail to remember the birthdays of the members of my large family and community!
I only remember the Birthday of my Educator, and on that day I concentrate all praying for the advancement of all the world.

I'm 60 & still celebrate my birthday! And I'm going to celebrate every single one of them 'til their all used up.
My mother has the birthday person home for a nice meal chosen by whoever is celebrating the birthday.
And one sister and I also cook special meals for each other on our birthdays.

No.
GOD has commanded to follow the prophets from first prophet Adam to last prophet Mohammad (peace be upon them all) including Jesus (peace be upon him) in order to be SUCCESSFUL that is both in this WORLD and ETERNAL PARADISE. If any prophet of GOD ever celebrated birthday then the Muslims will have NO problem in celebrating it. Regards,

I do celebrate my birthday and I'm a Muslima too, we grow older every year so we might as well do it in a good mood, celebrating in a simple and halal way is not wrong, why not enjoy it? there is nothing wrong with having a cake and a couple of friends around.

No, not because of religious reasons at all. I don't celebrate my birthday because at my age it would require too many candles and a huge cake. It would take me a half an hour to blow out the candles and I am too tired for this kind of work.

i have considered not celebrating my birthday.... i do not believe it is haram to celebrate your birthday however.
what i have thought is not celebrating the day i was physically born but celebrating the day i converted to Islam. It was the happiest day of my life and the day that my life truly began. moreover, this would give me a chance to reflect on how many years i have been a Muslimah.... and how much progress i have made in my iman.
*** very thought provoking question
asalamwalaikum
