I was asked this question when discussing with a friend rather we go to a bar or not....

By the way, I lived 6 years in the Netherlands: People are very precise in splitting their bill, they all sweat and count and check! Amazing! Money IS an, sorry THE issue for Dutch people. They are lovely but stingy and tightfisted!

going dutch means that each person pays for themself, as opposed to a date, where one person will pick up the tab

It means splitting the bill, or paying your own food/drinks.

But now the fun part:
Here in The Netherlands we say "American Party" when we mean a party where you have to bring your own drinks.

So, I guess we're even now...... ;-)
