Once you meet and get to know your dog you will start to notice certain attributes to this personality. . .once you know his personality you can quickly find a name that will suit him.
When I brought home my now 40lb shepard mix as a 5week old puppy she would snuggle my neck so readily and I made the comment to her that she was such a loving little dog. . . hence her name today. . . Lovey.

Good Luck,you'll figure it out.

How about Guss, It will suit through his life, and they can grow old together. He always looked old too and no one really knew what breed he was, but he had a heart of gold and everyone loved him.
