12 rounds. Give Calzaghe a break here.

FRANK D - Malinga was 42 years old when he lost to Richie Woodhall. Almost 43. He was robbed against Benn the first time but beat him the second time. Convincingly.
The loss to Eubank was a disputed split decision.
Sorry, I think Malinga would've been too slick for your boy.

You're not offending me. This is a hypothetical question, so no one is right or wrong here.
Remember though, that Robin Reid was also unbeaten until he fought Malinga, who was born 1955-12-2.

Malinga was a boogeyman - his unorthodox style, dazzling speed and superior defense gave people fits, but also put him on the losing end of several bad robberies.
I think he might just have had enough boogeyman in him to upset Calzaghe, whom I like, by the way.

I presume that you will disagree with this but i think Joe would absolutely blow Malinga away. As soon as Malinga got in the ring with anybody who was any good he lost and i wouldn't see it being any different here. I am only talking from memory here because he fought against a lot of British fighters for titles and nearly always got beat. Of the top of my head i remember Benn, Eubank and Richie Woodhall all beating him and quite convincingly from what i remember. Calzaghe is a class above Malinga in my eyes it was Calzaghe who ended Richie Woodhalls career with an absolute beating and this was only about 18 months after Richie had embarrassed Malinga taking the title with a lopsided points decision. You could also look at what Calzaghe done to Eubank and then what Eubank done to Sugar boy.
I don't think Malinga was much more than a slightly above average boxer and although Joe hasn't finished his career just yet i still don't think this match up is even close.
Completely one sided victory for Calzaghe, even if Joe didn't KO him i don't think Malinga would win a round.
I would say the answerer's above must be South African or anti-British because i cant understand how any true boxing fan could come to their conclusions, Joe hasn't been stopped in 40 fights and he has defended his title 19 times, Malinga never even defended a proper title he always lost his first defence, i am baffled.
Brad tell me who this really slick fighter ever beat then because ive just looked at his record and i would say no one, like i said every good fighter he came up against he lost and i wouldnt even put Woodhall and Eubank in the top fighter bracket.
I presume this is one we will just have to disagree on.

Brad wasnt Malinga the one that didnt really know how old he was as he didnt really have a birth certificate of any kind, i remember vaguely them saying something about this during the Benn fight.
Also i probably should of give Malinga a bit more respect than i did, if you and Santana both disagree with me there is probably something in it, but like i said i can only go on memories and i every time i watched him he got beat (apart from 2nd Benn fight which wasnt that convincing to a British fan although Malinga did win). I should of probably went back and looked at some of his other fights before i answered the question, sorry.
Didnt mean to offend you about a boxer who you obviously hold in high esteem.

I've seen Calzaghe live on TV and Sugarboy on DVD. I think it would depend on if the fight was fought in England/South Africa. Sugarboy couldn't catch a break in RSA and he'd have too really whip Joe's a** badly to win in England. All things considered equal, I take Malinga by decision, too slick, too fast for Joe.
Smitty, I disagree Malinga was underrated I've seen a few of his fights on video. I do agree with you, Joe is overrated.

Brad ~
I gotta go with you on this one. Frank, sorry Bro, Sugar-boy proved himself time and time again and Joe looked anything but impressive in his last fight against an opponent he was suppose to wax.

Frank ~
You are right, Malinga had no accuarate way of telling how old he was. When he lost to Woodhall there were reports that he was 43 and I heard also 44, but then again Frans Dekahammer reported that he was 38, who knows.

I think that the bout would end in a draw. Sorry Brad, both fighters are overrated.

P.S. I am still trying to contact you via e-mail at my 360 page.
