I have a beagle but I really love big dogs ( not that I would ever trade my beagle for another dog ) but I was wondering what does everyone prefer?

Too NightTrainWooWoo : Beagles are excellent dogs and family friendly. They can, although, be difficult to train at times, but stick to it, thier worth it. They are usually always willing to play and loving and loyal to their owner and wouldn't want to do anything to dissappoint them. Beagles are happy to see you after a holiday etc. and ready to play anytime. They will be friendly with family friends, wary with strangers, but never aggresive.

Ah the question my girlfriend and I have been going round and round about. I like big dogs as well, and my favorite dog is an Irish Setter. They are pretty, smart, good with kids, and athletic. My girlfriend doesn't like bigger dogs, but I could not put up with a little yappy thing that pees every time someone comes in the door. Our compromise was a beagle, so I am interested to find out how beagles are. We nearly bought a beagle but the last pup was sold about 10 mins before we got there, so we still don't have a dog. Are beagles a good dog to have? I like Irish Setters, Old English Sheepdogs, and Newfoundlands. Newfoundlands, by the way, can get up to 200 plus pounds, but they are very smart, non-aggressive, and very protective of their families when provoked. They were used as rescuing dogs for drowining victims back in the day. If you want a really big dog, Newfoundland is the way to go, but they are HUGE.

My favorite dog overall is the dachshund (I have 3!) but if you're looking for a big dog, we had a St. Bernard that was wonderful. Labs are great dogs with kids but it takes them an average of 2-3 years to settle down. It's that way with a lot of big dogs, though.

I reckon it's about your lifestyle and personality...i personally love most dogs and have had many different dogs from childhood, but the type of dog that really crept into my heart, is the Siberian Husky! I have 2 at the moment and in a few months i hope to have their puppies as well! I love the outdoors, running and being active...to me, dogs are children or companions, my best friends, they are part of the family and i love them to bits...i don't mind the hair they give off...(they're the best! according to me and my lifestyle)

My favorite breed is the toy poodle! Mine died last September, she was 18 :( All toy and miniature poodles that I've dealt w/are great.
I have a chihuahua that I adore and treat like my child...she's almost 10 yrs old. But, not all chihuahuas have a good temperament...mine is special :)
