We're opening a bookstore soon, and will need a vehicle for going out to buy used books. But we will also need it for ordinary running around, and the usual passenger (me) needs a passenger seat that is easy to get in and out of. I'm old and fat. Our driver, who is young and slim, needs an automatic transmission.

With those parameters, and knowing that we will have to buy used because new is way too expensive, what are your recommendations?

Okay Aunt b i finally found your question. I own a minivan and i love it. Why do i love it well 1. it's easy to drive and park, it's just like driving a car and not at all like driving a big truck. 2. it has room for all my stuff ( 3 kids, strollers, backpacks, groceries and what not) 3. It doesn't use as much gas as an SUV

Also people like to make fun of the minivan but it is really quite practical, I love the stow and go design of the new Chryslers although mine is an older model and doesn't have that. My van has a lot of get up and go it is more powerful than my husbands Ford Ranger and it gets up to speed really fast. If you remove or fold down the back seats then you will have a lot of cargo room for all of your books. I am not going to knock the SUV it is obviously the most attractive choice but if cost and fuel efficiency is more important to you i think you will find that the minivan isn't really all that uncool. Besides i think it's cool to not worry about being cool.

Mini-vans are terminally uncool, but in your situation would serve much more of a utilitarian purpose. Do not buy at a GSA auction. I handle repairs for the military mini-van used by the Navy. I know from experience that GSA vehicles are run down and in terrible condition. I would recommend a Honda or a Toyota minivan because not only are they more reliable and will cause you a lot less in maintenance, they are usually more fuel efficient and have higher resale values. Plus, the body styles aren't as dorky!

We had been a loved ones of four without a intentions on including to the loved ones, so I purchased a SUV. The subsequent month..to our shock, we had been pregnant. If I might have recognized previous, I might've absolutely purchased a mini van! There will not be adequate room. Especially in case your little one needs to convey a buddy alongside. If I had a option on mini vehicles it might be a grand caravan. They have a few fairly neat points now and appear to be beautiful risk-free.
