I don't understand why they bother to look in your bag without checking your receipt. If it's even legal. When I worked for them I was patted down by some phoney asking me for a "hug". Next time she squeezed my sleeves. I don't have a problem with legit security but I wonder if we are letting our rights get trampled. I guess I don't appreciate being called a thief. Anyhow let me know what you think and if you have had any experiances.

I agree. I don't understand why you pay for an item, then have to show your receipt again only a few steps away from the register. It's just another indication of the overly-monitored, paranoid culture we live in now. Once I was lugging a heavy tv out of Wal-Mart, and the lady made me put it down and dig out my receipt. I said, "You've got to be kidding."

I used to have a pair of shoes that would set off an alarm at a certain store. I got really tired of being treated like a thief every time I entered(!) or exited the store.

I totally agree! My husband and I had this problem the other day. We bought three things that would not fit into a bag(why in the hell don't they make bigger bags then)and all of our other stuff was in bags. Well of course the woman stopped us as we were walking out. And she had to mark off with the highlighter on our receipt what we had bought that wasn't in a bag. DOES WAL-MART REALLY THINK THAT WE CAN GO THROUGH THE LINE WITH A 8 PACK OF PAPER TOWELS, A GALLON OF WATER AND A BAG OF DOG FOOD AND THE DAMN PERSON AT THE REGISTER RINGING US UP OVER LOOK IT? I think not. This stopping you at the door on your way out is a real hassle.

I once went to return a shirt at Wal Mart. I walked in the door and went to the service desk; the greeter didn't greet me because he was busy greeting someone else, and the lady behind the service desk says, "Did anyone see you come in with that?" I was completely insulted; she was insinuating that I took it from inside the store and was trying to scam her (and it was in a a bag with a receipt!). They need to tell the service desk people how to treat customers. And the whole Greeter thing is SO annoying. I don't need to be greeted and asked how I am by a complete stranger who doesn't really give a crap how I am.

I never had any really bad experiences, but I saw some people b**ch and complain about it. At the Wal-Mart near me, they usually stop people that have large items that do not fit in bags. One time, I got stopped because I bought a big rubbermaid container. They made me open it just to make sure I did not stash anything in it. I'm not sure about the legalities. I used to live in the "ghetto" part of town and that Wal-Mart had a high theft rate. The local police would almost always be at the exit checking bags. At Xmas time, there would be a line just to get out of the door.

I have visited Wal-mart in a few cities and never had anyone hug, accuse, or overly greet me. Some people never have anyone to talk to them and have lonely lives. I think it is a nice touch, though at first I felt a little taken back to have anyone say Hello when I entered a store. Now I know of small clothing stores for women that greet one, and it depends upon my mood whether I like it or not. I'm not the overly sociable type. If Wal-mart suspects you have stolen something I think they have more sophisticated methods of calling it to your attention. Looking in your bag, not at your receipt? Probably badly trained!

I used to work at wal mart too. They are very annoying and i had to fill in for greeters when they took breaks. I hated doing it because i didn't want to annoy anyone else and it's boring. They shouldn't look in your bag unless the alarm goes off. Then they check your receipt so they can write down what register u went to, transaction #, and to make sure u paid for it. Then they just deactive the alarm.

Who likes shopping at Wal Fart? I will go to a Super Target and pay 3 cents more for paper towels because it is clean, the isles aren't 14 inches wide, and some lady isn't screaming at her 9 kids in the middle of the isle. I will gladly pay more not to shop there. Target doesn't have greeters!

I do not shop at malwart so I have not run into that there- I have been approached at other stores though..one look from me and they tend to back off- I do not like strangers touching me- I don't care how friendly they are pretending to be- when they come up to you for the infamous pat down hug just tell them not to touch you, as for them looking in your store sacks and checking it against your receipt..not much for it- they will do it no matter what

speaking of over zealous azzzholes.....

many- many- years ago I worked the service desk at wal-mart.
We had this little punk azzz store manager who looked like he was twelve years old.

Well, we would buy what we needed during our breaks and staple the bag shut with our receipt on top and leave it on the service desk counter....everyone did this.

Well Junior decided that we needed to take our bags to our cars and not leave them on the service desk counter.

I told Junior that if I ever decided to steal something from the store, I would hire a semi.....a crew of six......and go for the big stuff.

(if you know me---you know that I did exactly that)

*some people just let a little power go to their heads...what I should have done was turned the impudent little bassard over my knee and blistered his a**.
