walking is better, but do not sit with you legs crossed as far as I know there is a possibility of clog formation

when you sit, do not cross your legs - its bad for the blood circulation
try to sit with your back straight
when you stand, if you can, walk around (e.g. if you are a teacher) since it is always better to walk!
the best sport for the human being is walking - it has been proven that it does the least damage to the skeletton and that it is good for the blood vessels, for the heart and lungs and for the tonus of your muscles

I would say that it's better to stand because standing burns 30% of your calories. but, it really depends on your posture, if you slouch, it would be less effective; keeping your back straight while standing can save you from future back pains, and possibly a hump :)
