Well….design for a small house can be as challenging as any, especially in eco-sensitive zones like the hills. The design depends on two primary factors: (1) your requirements and tastes (2) the site and ecological context in which you are considering to build. These would govern the room, furniture and storage design and layout; position of the windows to exploit the views and negotiating the amount of sunlight; the roof design along with staircase, fireplaces and chimneys; the choice of materials especially if the site is surrounded with plenty of vegetation or amidst vernacular habitation…. natural and locally available woods, stones and construction methods can be incorporated… one can go on and on. If you are confident, do it your-self. Buying books may work out but most books are relevant to the western context where they are published. Your best bet is finding a sensible architect who is willing to do it for the love of it. You might still have to shell out some money but usually is a fraction of the building cost.

With a house that small, you're going to have to make sure that you can function in it correctly. Design, layout is sort of your preference. I would go to Lowe,s and buy a book of plans for a few bucks. Find one that suits you and then go to Best Buy and pick up a simple cad program. You can find one starting at about $50. Then do your own! Good luck.

I searched for hours on the internet while constructing my house. Could not find anything useful. Stop wasting time on the internet and visit some architects. Or talk to your friends who have constructed their house.
