Financing is the main issue, but it also can be a pain in the neck looking for only one car, when you have more choices in a dealership, if you don't like the car you were looking for first.
By the way, some of my worst used car were the ones who were from " good friends of a friend" or "grandma's cars driven only to the store and church" . An individual seller can be as bad, or as good as a dealership.

Because Individuals don't give credit and most people don't have the cash but can make payments, so not many Private folks do that, and dealerships are where people either turn in there cars or lose there cars and a way is needed to sale them to recoup the loses, hardly anyone is a real mechanic so a dealership offers a place to repair vehicle and a establishment to go to where there is a warranty and someone to fix the broken cars ? and most dealer ships will have a better Selection than a privet sale , sounds like you were ripped off a time ago, and you need to re think your question individuals lie and there is no recourse to collect it but they court if you can find the person again its much better to buy from a dealership with warranty than a stranger in the night, when you sell cars at your house do you offer a full roadside maintenance program ? and will you warranty your cars for a year ? I think not ,will you give credit to someone ? I think not, how big is your selection and what do you really know about vehicles, and some or most people don't want to hassle with the transaction and a dealership is the only way to go there is your answer whether you like it or not ,

What's the difference? An individual can still lie to you just like a dealer can. And almost everyone has bad credit nowadays. Individuals usually will not finance people, especially with bad credit. They want the money up front. Personally, if people can afford the payment, I think new cars are the best bet. Many people may disagree. I know that new cars lose their value once you drive them off the lot, but you usually have a warranty and you can just take them to a dealer if they break down. Because of credit problems, I had to keep my car that I once bought new for 9 years and there is nothing I hate more than expensive unexpected car repairs. I miss my warranty.

How am I going to use my credit card to pay Joe Shmoe down the block for his 2004 Subaru Forester XT? But I'm sure Aspect Honda will take Visa. And don't say cash advance, because I can only take out $5K. And the dealer will also take my previous car off my hands with no hassle, and I hate my previous car. Am I supposed to let Joe Shmoe's brother test drive my Honda, and every Dick and Harry as well until I sell it? Bah!

Did you get this idea from Family Guy tonight, because it made me wonder too?

Reputation, reputable, that is the question. We are in a leisure world, I do not want to hassle with my neighbor about low oil pressure. On the other hand I can go and harass the dealer that sold me the lemon. Calling it stupidity well, I do not know. Why do we believe in Santa Claus?

It's not stupid if you got burned by an individual. Whomever you buy from you have to beware.
