Pop culture tends to portay beer as part of a culture of excess. Homer Simpson drinks Duff until his stomach distends.

Reality isn't always that different. Beer is the only alcoholic beverage where people can get special glasses that are the size of a Big Gulp, or go to bars where they can stick their faces under a running tap (it's a college age thing). College students are also supposed to drink the cheapest possible example by the caseload or worse yet, the kegload.

It's folly to battle pop culture, but I'm wondering for the connoisseur of beer, how much beer do you actually drink? How much beer SHOULD you drink? What are the reactions of a true beer connoisseur to the popular notions about beer--amusement, tolerance, disgust, frustration? Does the realm of the beer connoisseur exist completely apart from beer guzzling, or is there some logical intersection?

In addition to all the physical repercussions mentioned already, there is the hospital visit and court date for DUI that can happen if you drive while drinking too much beer. The STD you might get if you have unprotected sex after too much beer. The black eye or broken leg from the fight you had while drunk. The people you will alienate and drift away from. The time you will lose to hangovers-- either missing work or other events, or feeling like **** lots of the time.

Hopefull, we're not missing the part of the beer commercial that reminds us to "drink responsibly"... They do that because they don't want to end up in a 40 trillion dollar lawsuit like the tabacco companies did (and lose) because they tried to trick you into thinking their product was healthy for you...

In all fairness; Unless you are truly an alcoholic (an addict) beverages containing alcohol have little over all effect on your body if consumed in moderation and with food. There are even some benefit from the ingredients in some of them...

Too much of anything; Be it food, or drink. Is hard on the human body...No exceptions

you would have to define too much, apart from getting drunk, getting fat, wrecking your liver etc its probably not too harmful.
may pay to keep it under 12 cans on a heavy night, and daily not more than 3 or 4. Always have a non beer day once a week, helps the liver just a little.

Happy drinking..

PS.... have a close look at Homer Simpson...may answer your question

It can be harmful, but if the beer belly is the problem, show him a list of lower-cal beers:
