Because I have faith, and hope that everything has a purpose to it; for the life of me I don't see why those people are so adament about affirming and spreading their nhilistic views in the first place. But that may not be good enough for you, so I guess you'll just have to wait and see if God truly does come at the end of the world, or if people end up destroying each other...

You fell straight into the trap of describing anyone who does not believe in the Christian God as an athiest! So just a question about Christians vurses the rest then!
There are many different religions and a number of different gods worshipped by them.
An athiest is someone who does not believe there is a God. But that does not mean they do not hold strong moral or religious beliefs!
A Pagan on the other hand is a non Christian member of any group or religion.
A heathen is a Christian description of someone without any faith.
The Christian religion is based on the Bible. This could be little more than a work of fiction in an historic setting. There are no proofs in it whatsoever. There is no Roman record of Jesus, a man supposed to have been their public enemy number one. On the other hand there were a number of Jews claiming to be the messiah around at the same time as Jesus was supposed to have been preaching and these are all well documented by the Romans.
The bible is a handful of scrolls taken from a vast number found together. It has been consistently said that these are at odds with the vast majority of the other scroles which are said to tell a greatly different story. Sadly we will probably never know as the scrolls are locked in a vault in the Vatican and no one, not even religious or historical experts are allowed to see them!
The so called Judas gospel recent surfaced and Christians immediately denounced it without any scientific testing, religious testing or any reality check whatsover.
Funny how all the miracles happened in the bible but none since!
Funny how the Christian extremists describes people who hold non Christian views as nihilists isn't it? Nihilism is defined as a complete rejection of all authority and institutions. Do Christians really think that they are the total authority and only institution? Well they probably hedonistically do!!!!
They have a faith and believe in it implicitly. That is after all what faith is about. If there were scientific proofs about no one would need faith!
On the other hand all the other religions followed by athiests and pagans are just as valid to them as Christianity.
There is nothing wrong with heathens either. If they choose not to believe in any God then they should be as free as anyone elseto believe what they wish.
The whole debate is really only of interest to the Christian sects however. Since they are always seeking to push their view and their religions onto others.
Strong morals were around long before religion and most non Christians are far more morally correct than their Christian counterparts.

Most people who debate must really believe in what they are debating, or they wouldn't bother. I know, that I know, that I know that my God is real. I have a relationship with Him, He can speak to me, I can hear Him, and I see His handiwork everywhere. So I know I'm on the RIGHT side! But I don't think debating about God is wise....God doesn't have to be proved. When a person meets God and accepts His offer of "life," there is no turning back. However, very few will accept Him, so....they debate on the WRONG side.

There you have it, we can't even agree on the meaning of lots of words.
The word theory for example when used in the scientific sense has a different meaning from a general public's meaning of off-the-cuff idea.. christians don't bother to distinguish.
Christians have their own buzzwords somewhat like a trade or a guild.
Earlier today I showed my proof of the nonexistence of god, by induction. One answerer basically said that I could stuff my inductive logic, another pondered if the laws of physics might suddenly cease to exist, just to prove me wrong and a third implied that 'God' just meant 'faith' and therefore could not be proved logically either way.
If one is willing to abandon all logic,
another is willing to abandon the laws of physics and yet
another is willing to 'move the goalposts' so quickly to defend their religion then there really is nothing purposeful in our being intelligent, or in 'free will', except to trip us up.. What would god's point be,in giving us a reasoning brain, if we are to revile reason so easily?
What does the word god mean, anyway?

One side is based on logical argument, the other is based on faith. The choice is which of these is better.
If believing in God is a no-brainer, then those with no brains will surely follow him. The Christians' primary tactic is emotional rhetoric - "I have a relationship with him, therefore I'm RIGHT", "Believing in god is a no-brainer", "It doesn't have to be proven", "You'll find out when you talk to him".
I do not feel those are effective debating arguments.

I even have seen the solutions that the two Christians and atheists positioned up. we are referred to as to love one yet another. Being humble earlier the Lord is plenty greater significant than being precise and/or "prevailing" a controversy. i became broken via risky words that have been spoken to me as a new child and a adolescents and we would desire to continually all talk the certainty in love Ephesians 4:15 What bothers me is the hostility I even have seen in this board via the two Christians and atheists. Atheists I do pray for and that i additionally pray that we would all understand the wear and tear of detrimental and oppressive words wither in spoken type, written type, email type or in this subject posting type. God bless :)

Since EVERYTHING in nature can't be explained by science it appears to me to be a no-brainer.
They can't explain how the bumble-bee can fly. I.E. wing to body mass ratio.
