I am looking for a counselor. And, I have a choice to make. I really need the help. I just want some advice from the informed individuals out there as to whom would be a better choice.

All responses would be helpful.

Someone in recovery...They get it because they got it...They will call you on your crap and call you out when they need to...but also, they can identify with you and they always have compassion....

While I have no doubt that either can assist you as long as their training, education and time in service is close .....I would go with a recovery counselor as having a life experience in this area and won't pull any punches.

I am a recovering addict and I much prefer talking to another recovering addict. They know where you are coming from because they have been there.I have been in situations where my counselor wasn't a recovering addict and I had a hard time relating.
