My son lost his job installing drop ceilings for a company called United Acoustical Ceiling Company because they began hiring illegals and felt they shouldn't have to pay an American legal wages. He has a wife and a 2 year old child. He is now searching for a job while his wife works more hours than she should. Yes, my family has been affected, so I have all the rights in the world to be angry about it

This is the first time i answer any question regarding this topic which i didn't know existed since i don't do a lot of yahoo answers but this topic can become very insulting for many people. I have never been illegal but have met many since my husband is from the Dominican Republic and i am Hispanic and work with many different races. I do work at an Indian casino and like i said i work with many kinds of races. I do believe that Mexicans got easier access thru the borders but many more illegal inmigrants are in this country and it's always referred as Latinos (Mexican, Cubans, Dominican, whatever) but at the same time there are many ignorant people out there that don't know the difference between races. Anyway, i don't believe illegal inmigrants come to this country to "steal" no ones jobs, the jobs are there if locals don't want them (mostly because of low pay, dirty job, odd hours and many other reasons) some else is willing to sacrifice to maintain their families (feed them, give them homes and a decent life), not only Hispanics commit crimes or break the law, so just the fact that Hispanics are the "only ones" illegally in this country can get many people upset. Guess what, it's not us who will determine what it's going to happen anyway the government will. I agree that they should build something like the Great Wall of China but we know it's impossible. This topic will always be one of debate so i am here to read and maybe once in a while say something but even though i don't agree with people coming illegaly to this country i do believe that they come here to work and add beauty to this nation just like the people that live here and do the same because we do have pleanty of people that shouldn't even be in this country just by the way they behave and they are US citizens.

It's a "wedge issue" that is used to keep people focused on, while we're being continually ripped off by unfair trade and greedy property investors, mostly... I could go into detail about all the ways the rich are ripping us off, but it would be long... Anyway the result is a "squeeze effect", high cost of living with low wages... The immigration problem is much more visible to most people, so it's like the old slight of hand trick.. don't look at the real problem, look at the illegal immigrants, "there bad"..... With fair trade and an energy self sufficiency policy, we could have so many jobs in this country we would be begging immigrants to come here... but that's why it won't happen, "we're being ripped off".

Immigration isn't illegal. There are proper channels to follow if foreign nationals wish to become citizens. Immigrants are and have long been a national treasure. I agree with you on this point.
I think what angers people is illegal immigrants. The problem is that there are millions of criminals trying to get around our laws. Americans as a society do not condone criminal activities. Illegal immigrants are forced by the circumstances of their facade to commit felonies through fraud.
As for the job market, it is a very real problem that is definitely hurting the working class. Everybody tries to rationalize it as okay because nobody wants those jobs, meanwhile we still have unemployment issues.
As for history the pilgrims who practically commited genocide against the Native Americans, that's another story and question altogether. We can't change the past, only the present and future.
I'm not mad at immigrants, I married one. I'm just not in favor of keeping the blinders on to let people get away with doing it undocumented and illegally.

I am addressing your last question, "what has illegal immigration done to harm me"
If the concept of making a decision that only serves YOU has lost all meaning with you then you are living a life with the same greed and selfishness as the illegals themselves. Should only those who have had an encounter with a drunk driver stand up against it? Would you think it was a waste of time for an elderly man to plant a tree in his back yard even if he knew he would not live long enough to benefit from it's fruit? Or would you think he was a great and thoughtful grandfather for planting a tree so that his grandchildren could enjoy the fruits of his labor. This is the same thing. I do not have to experience the hardships of loosing my job to understand that there are some Americans that are not as fortunate as me. The fact that you are showing yourself as a person that has no obligation to your fellow Americans is what these illegals are feeding on. They know that there are employers that could care less about things like law and morality and they are using those weakness of character to exploit America. You seem to be getting upset that people are giving "thumbs down" and at the same time seem oblivious to the negative sociological, and financial burden illegals are having on America. I would recommend that you get your priorities straight.

Let me however it to you an extra approach. Should a individual who's breaking a federal legislation be allowed to hold breaking that federal legislation? Yea, I have heard the entire arguments. I have heard them for years. They all forget about a few sensible data. You is also a well individual, or perhaps a nice individual. But if you're right here illegally, your are breaking the legislation. I don't care if you're Mother Teresa, if you're breaking the legislation, you ARE a crook. I don't help retaining criminals within the US! I recognise all approximately civil unrest and breaking legislation to protest a few social unsuitable. But I have a tough time pondering you, and might be your complete household, moved to one more nation to "protest" a few perceived social injustice. The truth is that you simply moved right here to make a larger lifestyles for your self and your household. Period. I haven't any hindrance with that. Heck, I even respect it! But you free all my help whilst you do it illegally. A crime is against the law is against the law. I suppose someone who commits against the law will have to be inclined to pay the cost for doing so. Being despatched residence is larger than rotting in prison. And take into account, it is a crime dedicated in simple terms for individual attain

Joe and his guitar said it best and bone crusher ILLEGALS can and do get welfare. Sorry to break the news to you. Surenos (13) come from Mexico cuz I used to be in that gang. Illegals are driving down the minimum wage. I am saying this stuff after reading countless government websites and other news sites I speak from the truth not just assuming something I think sounds good and I think probably makes sense and writing about it. To all the uneducated ipeople, llegals are HURTING this country if you don't believe me do some research. And I think after being around alot of Mexicans my entire life when I hear that stuff about them trying to reclaim The south west once there are enough of them I TOTALLY believe it. The La Raza types are just like other racist organiztions they blend in and stay secretive but they will come out and band together and recruit new members when the time is right. And they've already been pissed off.

i have posted several answers here on yahoo and just like this one i have had many haters fill my board. Im Glad someone has posted this type of question, i have also asked myself why is there so much hate againts people who support illegal immigration. like the guy who posted 2 posts on top of me said, many blame illegals for the low wages, for the violence on the streets for the gangs and for the drugs. Well for one low wages are not because of illegal immigrants if that was the case the wages here in Cali wouldnt be going up to 8 the hour by 2008 would they? people say they steal jobs from american citizens, thats not true jobs are abundant here in this country is just a matter of you wanting that job, let me put it for example at my work place there is a big opening for dishwashers yet no one wants to apply. i see alot of jobs openings everywhere so thats no excuse to say "ohh illegals take jobs from americans".
Now lets move on to crime, people also blame illegals for crimes or like one user said the "something 13, is all mexicans" well 1st of all the "something 13" is the MS -13 (mara salvatrucha 13) if you were smart enough you would notice it comes from el salvador not mexico, also hispanics only make up 25 % (not sure of the figures) of the inmate population blacks and whites make up the majority with 48% blacks 49% whites of the inmate population, most serial killers are white. so you cant say that illegals make this country worst because as you can see they dont. the numbers dont lie u can look it up youself.
lastly i agree with most of you that illegal immigration has to be stoped non the less. but building a Great wall is not going to end it its just going to make it worst, unless you make legal paths for people to come into this country legally you have to do both in order to control illegal immigration.

the problem comes in when many people who are against illegal immigration resort to rascial slurs while trying to further their argument. i.e. calling people "wetbacks" "beaners" "towel heads" etc. many of them say "round them up and heard them back to where they came from.." this clearly is not the solution. I am puerto rican and I clearly understand the struggles that many immigrants (not just mexicans) go through in their country. but we also have rules, regulations, and laws for a reasson. Unfortunately people think that it is as simple as filling out paperwork and receiving those documents and then you are able to enter into united states. this process is arguous and can take many years, this does not make it okay that immigrants resort to entering illegally. I do not support illegal immigration because they enter and then want govt funded help. (food stamps, social security etc.) I feel you should not be eligible for any of those services if you have not put anything into that system. Me being hispanic and having this view does create problems within my own culture because to many I am viewed as a traitor. I don't decide on emotions I decide on facts. Everyone wants the united states of america to "FEEL" hurt and have pity on them, but when it comes down to a congressional decision or a supreme court ruling, they arn't gonna go on "FEELINGS" they want the facts. this is not 1950 and you should not be able to say such a thing as "round them up like cattle" without expecting a reasonable rebutle. when people get offended they tend to respond ignorantly, and thats part of the problem. instead of being quicker to listen and slower to speak people just spue out what they are "FEELING" rather than clearly taking a moment to conclude a respectful and decent opinion. this immigration problem will never be fixed over night but with reasonable debate people can get a better understanding of the pickle america is in and that america helped create(by issuing illegal immigrants temporary work visas and work permits and temp. social security numbers). if we know they are illegal why do we issue them such temporary documets? thats why they flood the borders because they know once they cross we will give it to them. if we stop issuing this out I think this will change the minds of many who are contemplating illegal entrance. just my opinion.

When we signed Nafta, and Tafta or Cafka or whatever this Country started bleeding jobs.
Wasn't the immigrants fault. I don't blame them.
Bad policy begets........issues.
We have nearly completely lost our low end employment, and chance for advancement.
Kids out of high school who can not afford College will be doomed to compete with a workforce that will work hard for $5 an hr.
The competition for entry level jobs is now stacked heavily against American kids, in favor of Immigrants.
I do not resent the immigrants, Im the Grandchild of two
I resent the POLICY.
And putting wages aside, I resent that there are people from many countries, going to Mexico, and changing their names (Legally) to cross our borders. We NEED TO KNOW WHO IS COMING IN. I do not wan't immigration to Stop, I want to know who is entering and from where, and perhaps even a background check.
If our foe were a unified entity, I might buy into this "fight them there so we won't have to fight em here" mentality.
Reality is another story.
What have we to fight them with........here?

Many reasons. 1. $ 30 billion dollars a year go to educate and provide free health care to illegals, while 45% of AMERICANS can't afford health care coverage !!! 2. Gangs and drugs. MS 13 and such. Come on now. LA is full of Latino gangs. 3. They wave their mexican flag in my country and "Demand" Amnesty. You go to Mexico illegally, march in their streets and wave an American flag and demand anything right now. If the citizens don't kill you right out, the mexican police will lock you up and throw away the key. My list goes on too far to explain any further. I will say this. The USA is a LIFE BOAT and can only hold X number of passengers and it is way over the limit and if we do not do something soon, we will all be swimming the "THIRD WORLD" Ocean.
