I have asked many people if corporal punishment should return as other forms of "punishment" appear to be totally useless. Virtually everyone agrees with me but I know that no MP will ever try to get this passed in Parliament as it would not be "party line" How can this be described as a democratic country when peoples wishes are ignored ?

its the best thing that could happen! problem is peoples wishes are not being heard, it would take someone to ask the whole nation to take a stand, and organise a demonstration nationwide for the government to realise that we mean it. if it was brought back you wouldnt do anything to warrant the possibility of receivng corporal punishment, as it stands just now, you know the worst you will get is a slap on the wrist or a very enjoyable holiday at hms, which hey is anything but a deterrent nowadays! criminals would maybe take the saying cant do the time, dont do the crime a bit more serious! i think you would be amazed how many people phsycally stand up to be counted on this is something concrete was organised especially if we had a tabloid backing us too!

We (UK) are no more democratic than a third world country. The fact we have elections every 4 or 5 years makes us appear to be democratic - but the system in place is highly unrepresentative of the population so effectively if only one person ineach constituency casts a vote an MP would be elected on that one vote. We only need therefore 360-odd people to choose our government - to hell with the other 58999000 people!

You can't deter the determined...and some moron wants capital punishment - oh aye - the state of British policing (killing in custody and on the street...by the upholders of law, bedamned), and the regular stories of people who have been released after miscarriages of justice must make the people who want all sorts of nostalgic punishments to return feel mature and intellectually superior.

Never. Beating the hell out of someone is not the answer to crime. I do agree with spanking naughty secretaries.
