I have a 4 year old boy who eats very healthy. If you give him all the junck food he'll pick the vegies and salads. But he loves ice cream and candy. After his meals i do give him his ice cream and one candy a day.Plus he drinks juise with his meals.I am sick of some mothers asking me "Do you give him candy"?Yes he deserves to have his candy, just like every adult in this mother earth. It's not like i give him 10 candys a day.If his teeth are a consern,i brush them every day and i check for cavities which he has none.Pleas share with me your point of veiw. They make me feel guilty.

Sorry, but I don't think a child needs candy. I'm personally opposed to using candy (or any food) as a reward -- even if you think he "deserves" it. He probably now expects a sweet after eating -- and will continue to all his life. I suggest you substitute something like fruit, which is sweet and has some nutritional value.

i am not a big beliver in candy for kids but your his mother and its your choice. i, on rare occasions, give the kids candy and after a big holiday when there is a lot around they may get a piece a day for a week or two. i think so long as you are keeping those teeth clean it's your business what you do on the sweet front i do give a lot of fruit and juice which is also high in sugar but hey there are worse things that could happen than sugar

My kids get sweets. We have a candy bowl and they can choose one piece per day. They have soft drinks only on special occasions. They have ice cream or baked treats once in a while.

My thing is that if you cut a kid totally off sugar, then when they do get it, they get really hyper. I have seen this personally with a cousin who denies her children all sugar. If they get a little bit daily, then they are sensitized to it, and there are less sugar highs.
Plus, what kid doesn't deserve a little treat?

I am a mother of six and from what you wrote as to how you give your son the choice and he chooses the fruit's and veggies you are do fine. As for the the candy one piece is fine and you can take him to the dentist and have him checked for cavities but it sound like he will have none maybe give him a piece every other day

Do not feel guilty.I have found out that alot of mothers who can not get their children under control will say they are not allowing their kids to have candy or soda no more. They say it makes them hyper. As a mother of 6(ALL BOYS) I can tell you I never stopped my kids from having candy or soda.Of course I would not allow them to consume large amounts of either.Their teeth are fine and they are no more hyper with sugar then without.

ur doing a great job, i limit my son to one candy or something sweet a day. he is almost 5 yrs old and his teeth are in good condition, i dont want him to be w/ silver caps on his teeth from all the sugars.. and my son also drinks juices w/ his meals or water or milk. but i just make sure he eats good and we just limit his candy intake.

sugar is bad.
so is war. but we seem to be doing a lot that--don't we...
anyway.
a little is fine but i would stay away from "desserts" it can become an unhealthy habit to always crave sweets after a meal. and no juice with dinner, water, water water.
