Making my WINNING Chili for a contest tomorrow and after I had cut up my jalepeno, habanero and cayenne peppers, I washed my hands and went to blow my nose. OOPS!!! Must have still had some juice or substance on because now my left nostril is flaming, pulsating, and numb like. Any suggestions to help this so I might possibly get some sleep tonight.

Pepper Juice

Same just happened to me! Forgot about having red hot chili pepper juice on my hands and swiped my nose... Instant HELL. I tried rinsing with water; no mercy. Tried washing it off with soap; temporary relief but then the burning re-surged. Thus, I resorted to saturating a rolled up paper towel with milk and placing it in my nostril as if I had a nose bleed... Although I felt like an idiot, it did the trick! Within five minutes, the precious dairy and its basic form had bound with the capsaicin chemicals and rescued my nose from its blazing demise.

Firstly, don't put peppers in your nose. Make sure you wash your hands after handling peppers before you touch your face, or worse go to the bathroom. The hot part of the pepper is an oil. Use something like some Dawn dish soap or rubbing alcohol to remove the oil and the burn from your nose. Follow up with a soothing aloe moisturizer.

DO NOT USE WATER-spreads the burn more, can dab area with beer, milk, my fave i actually use pepto-bismol. Sounds really gross, but found out when got it on my well never mind (ex had a demented sense of humor) that if you put in on like a paste (like campho-phenique, the pink crap as kids our parents used for chicken pox), works relatively good for getting rid of the burn. Only bad thing with habenero peppers is it takes a few times of scrubbing with soap to get all the oils off your hands. Hope that this helps, if not at least you got a good laugh!

LOL! I told you to lay off that stuff! Just kidding! I hear milk will tame it down, although I wouldn't suggest snorting it :-). I know that sounds crazy, but it's worth a shot.

A chemist I know says try dabbing your burning areas with beer. Sounds strange, but it usually works for me! Good Luck to you!
