While others may not appreciate the point you were making or even noticed it, I think you are making a decent point. Like all "businesses" , the military has target audiences. For various reasons the military caters to women and racial minorities. You can tell from the ads that their target group are these because of the sheer amount of images.
While i will lead or follow anyone regardless of their race (and females as the law allows), I do not feel the need to push for increased minority recruitment. Check out he ads. There always seems to be a white male, a white female and a black male standing together similar to the way colleges recruit on their pamphlets. It's saying "look, we're really diverse."
That's absolutely fine but the reality is that the Army is about 80% male and pretty close to the civilian population race-wise.
I think the finer point you are trying to make is that we're recruiting people for the wrong reasons. Instead of serve your country, share the burden, challenge yourself it has always been "hey come get the education and the benefits". Well, we've reaped what we've sewn. There's a whole segment of the military who went into the GWOT and said "I didn't sign up for this". Yes you did but you were fixated on the bennies...

I know what you mean. My husband is a marine and is not white. If you notice the USMC commericals, they use young, while, and usually blonde boys. They actually asked for some Marines to work on one of the military channel shows and they went though and pick out the white blonde headed guys to do it. The funny thing was the show didn't pick them the higher ranking Marines did.
Thats funny that I get thumbs down as soon as I post. Probably another person that think racism in America doesn't exist any more. The commercials are so wrong. They are just saying the minorities join just for the benefits but white people join for pride.

I think that is just what you notice. There isn't an overwhelming number of black teens in military commercials. If you are annoyed with black orientated commercials, I think it is more a problem within yourself than anything. Because if you really want to get into it, commercials are made to stimulate majority of the population, which is white. There are more "white" commercials than there are black or other races for the military. You just seem like you are annoyed with black people.

I dont have a problem with the military advertising diversity. It is a great option for lots of people in messed up situations. I know joining the military back in 1993 saved my life. I do have a problem with the fact that it only seemed as if the Army and Marines came to the hood to recruit. There was no Air Force recruiting station to be found in my neck of the hood. Had there been, I probably would still be in the Air Force.

Why should that bother you? The military is a great choice for some people, and they pay for college when you're done. And it's true - you can be a pilot or engineer if you want to.

I guess they can use white and black youth, but the military is a good carrer choice for someone. Job skills, education assistance and a good entry level job.
You should be proud of the governement, they merely remind people of the job opportunity.

why does this annoy you?
i think everyone needs to be reminded that the military is a place for ALL americans, not just white people.
as a matter of fact, i am glad that minorities are being represented in those commercials, because otherwise some people would think that the military was an elitist group of one culture only.
the military, like america, is best when it is represented by ALL types of people.
careful, your prejudice is showing.

White kids want to join for the same reasons. More white kids I work with join than black or hispanic. ONe white kid I work with now wants to join the air force so he can get his pilots license without having to pay 80 grand to a aeronautical school.
I work with juvies and at risk youth so I work with a very blended population as far as races go.

The commercial seems to be aimed at Black Americans. I suppose there are enough non-Black Americans volunteer.

Its a good career choice for some. From personal experience, I would recommend that anybody, regardless of race or gender should consider the options available to them.
