I just found out why my cat kneeds and slobers on my wife. She's the seragate mom for our cat. Well my wife is leaving for one year for a job opportunity. I'll be rejoining her when I move... one year later. What sort of effects will this have on the cat?

Can she take the cat with her when she goes? If not, you might try taking weekends away from the cat. Or rather your wife might try to see how she does. Alot of times a cat will transfer (partially) those affections to another surrogate, others they will just grow up and won't need the attention. A mother cat will growl, swat, nip at or walk away from her kittens when she feels they are ready to live without her. HOWEVER, there are cats who enjoy the affection of her kittens so much that even when they are mothers themselves, she will still let HER baby come to her for some nuzzling. You just have to decide if you want her to "grow up" or find something or someone she will substitute for your wife. Good Luck and remember to give her lots and lots of love no matter what path you choose.

I am sure your cat will miss her. I am not sure how the behavior will show in your cat. Only time will tell.
