Whats the little icon on the taskbar called that opens your desk top?

...the technical name?...mine has disappeared?

it is called "show desktop" under quick launch (right click on the taskbar -- tools -- quick launch)

Are u talking about the 'Start' button. Desktop is automatically loaded when u log into a GUI operating system . If the icons in the desktop have disappeared right click on the Desktop. u will get a window. In that there is a tab called Desktop .. see whether the settings are right there
