Tylenol (Acetaminophen) with Codeine: Do not stop taking acetaminophen and codeine suddenly if you have been taking it continuously for more than 5 to 7 days. Stopping suddenly could cause withdrawal symptoms and make you very uncomfortable. Your doctor may want to gradually reduce your dose.
Codeine will cause drowsiness and fatigue. Avoid alcohol, sleeping pills, antihistamines, sedatives, and tranquilizers except under the supervision of your doctor. These may also make you drowsy.
Acetaminophen and codeine will also cause constipation. Drink plenty of water (six to eight full glasses a day) to lessen this side effect. Increasing the amount of fiber in your diet can also help to alleviate constipation.
Never take more acetaminophen and codeine than is prescribed for you. If your pain is not being adequately treated, talk to your doctor.
Watch the acetaminophen content of other over-the-counter and prescription products while taking this medication. Do not take more than a total of 4 grams (4000 mg) of acetaminophen per day.
It is dangerous to drink alcohol while taking this medication.
What is acetaminophen and codeine?
Codeine is in a class of drugs called narcotic analgesics. It relieves pain.
Acetaminophen is a less potent pain reliever that increases the effects of codeine.
Together, acetaminophen and codeine are used to relieve moderate-to-severe pain.
Acetaminophen and codeine may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide.
In my personal expierence, this drug at a normal dose will not make you overly drowsy. At a high dose, it will make you slightly dizzy and tired. If you are doing a job that involves potential dangers, I would take a low dose.

some people codeine makes them tired, some it speeds them up. I personally would rather take a Tylenol over the counter as to take a Tylenol with codeine, so if you have never taken it you won't know what one it will do to you, it will make you tired or speed you up, good luck

1st....heed your doctor's instructions on the medicine and it's side effects. It is a narcotic and by definition works through the central nervous system (brain) and can make you tired.
But the good thing about pain medicine is that when you are in pain it treats that symptom making the CNS side effects less evident. In other words....you're tolerance to pain will increase and the side effects will be less apparent.
I had rotator cuff surgery...highly painful...on my shoulder. They gave me Percocet for the pain and the pain was so bad that 2 tablets every 6 hours that this highly potent narcotic never made me sleepy or drowsy or euphoric.
Just take it as prescribe and be alert for any side effects.

you will get sleepy, yes. If you had your wisdom teeth out then it is best you take them if you must and stay home. But if you can take pain a little it might be better for you to take other pills like Advil, for pain and swelling. So you know what to do.
