My son and I like our bananas cold. I keep them in the refridgerator but they seem to go bad so quickly! I buy them a little green in hopes that they will last longer, but when they're in the fridge they stay green longer and still get brown spots. What's the best way to store them?

Keep them out in a paper bag away from the sunlight. That alone will increase the life of them 3 fold. Just pop them in the fridge in the a.m. if you plan on having them as a snack later in the day. You may try leaving them in a brown paper bag in your crisper if you just have to have them cold. I know that the light has the majority of the effects on them. Even the light in your fridge.

Store the bananas somewhere on the kitchen counter hung on a "banana tree" in the open air, or in a fruit bowl by themselves. If the last couple bananas get over ripe and you simply can't eat them in time, don't throw them away. Instead, peel and mash them and freeze them in a covered plastic freezer container. Later, when you have time you can thaw it and use it to bake banana-nut bread. Your son will love that! About 2 bananas will make one large loaf.

We have one of those banana hanger things and keep them on the counter. They're good for at least a week, but they aren't cold.

If you buy your banana's slightly green, room temperature is best. When they are ripe your can mash them, add lemon juice and freeze. My banana's never make it to the freezer, because I love banana milk shakes. All it takes is one banana, milk and one teaspoon sugar in the blender. If you what to go all out add vanilla:)

keep them out, keep them away from apples (they cause them to ripen faster)
