I am a Christian and I agree. I think most Christians believe that once they are saved they are put in the exclusive category of (better than you, look down on you, and tell you how to live your life). I hate that. I actually graduated from a Bible College and hated every minute of it because of Christians; that is why I despise church so much. I am a follower of Jesus Christ, not Christianity, and definitely not religion. I think the time will come when "Christians" will open up their eyes and realizes that they are not the "administrators" of morals and ethics. I can not wait for that time. As for being hypocrites; at some point in time everyone is just that. I just think that because Christians hold everybody else to a higher level, they get judged at a higher level and more often. Sort of brings it on themselves... Hope this helps.

It can be the source of morals and ethics. To say that the two are not related is not true.
You learn these kinds of things from your parents and those that are around you when you are growing. If your elders have good morals and ethics, then you will most likely have the same ones. If religion played a broad role in your growing up, then religion did influence your morals and ethics.

In almost every culture throughout history religion has, in fact, been the source of morals and ethics. And just because people who call themselves christians don't often behave properly, it still serves to have a compass in life.
A big trap of any life system is the propensity to start feeling superior. Christianity, at least in theory, answers this. There are a great many other systems that are not quite as evolved (if I can use that word) that don't answer all of these potential pitfalls.

Christian means, literally "Christ-like". So, as a Christian, it is my duty to conduct myself as Christ would have. However, few Christians succeed at this, and some are down-right nasty and conceited. It is these so-called Christians that soil the word of God, and the reputation of the Church. I can't really answer your question other than to say there is a difference between Christians and religious people. You can be religious about almost anything, from watching sports to fishing to hunting. Some people just go the Church, participate in ceremonies and go through the motions. Then they proceed to behave just as badly as the rest of the world for the rest of the week.
As a Christian, I read God's word every day, pray, and try to discipline myself to seek God's will in my life and tell others how much Jesus loves them. Jesus Loves you, and wants to fellowship with you. I am sorry that there are those who have turned you away from them with their actions. But they are not representatives of Christ.

To be a Christian simply means you have chosen to allow God to establish the rules for your life. When you become a Christian, you invite Jesus into your heart, to guide your steps. He gives you the Holy Spirit to help you. Every Christian has to decide whether to play by those rules or not. No Christian is better than any other person. Christians are not "good", they try to be Godly. God loves all his children and to God all sin is equal, believe it or not.
It is much easier to decide what to do, if you check with God first. It is when each of us Christians take back control, that we get called hypocrites, and rightly so. I wish I could let the Holy Spirit guide me always, so I would be as Jesus was.

Do you know what "Christian values" are?.... where did you get the idea that Christians are perfect people?... And, I have never heard of any society that had any social morals or values that did not come from some form of "religion"... even is it was just some shaman saying "the old tree in the forest said..."

Ya know, you guys are beating a dead horse here. If I had a dime for every hypocrite Christian.....I am a Christian. I can not tolerate holier than thou Christians.A Christian is supposed to be a truly good person but it turns out a lot of them like to judge and what not.Yes I think it is worse when a Christian forgets their christian ways.No one is going to change that.I as a Christian have also argued with these people and I usually get that I am not a true Christian if I am not warning everyone that they are going to burn in Hell for eternity

Any Christian worth half their metal knows that they are a sinner and cannot save themselves. If people were inherently good, we wouldn't have been sent a Savior.
Religion is a source of morals and ethics, actually. Not the only source, but one source.
God is actually the source of good morals and good ethics, but not everyone acknowledges this.

You need to live according to the values to be a good person. You dont need to be Christian to know the difference between right and wrong. I'm Christian, but my brother isn't and yet he is a good person. We both try to treat others with respect and live a good moral life, that's what really matters.

Yeaop ... I am Wiccan and think I have more self-discipline in myself AND my religion! Don't get me wrong, I do not practice magic, rituals, or spell binding, all for the exception of, divination, herbs, astrology, stones and Karma casting! (Simply wishing their own bad karma to come back to them so they see what they have done to others! However, I wish no harm to anyone, unless I know for fact, not word of mouth.) Must see it to believe it. Much like nature and religion in the same aspect!
Morals and anything near the subject are not in the same category as religion. It is the way we are brought up. Evolution, learn from the parents mistakes and our own, simple evolution 101!
