I have a half pitbull half boxer, that is having what i see as major behavioral problems. Withing the past 5-7 months he has gone from a bright eyed, active, happy dog... to a dog that never looks happy... He seems that hes dazed at all times, not aware of his surroundings. 95% of his day is spent walking in circles. He walks into chairs and anything thats in his way. It seems like he is burdoned by some sort of severe mental illness. I have taken my dog to the vet, and they dont know whats wrong. PLEASE HELP!!! I want my old dog back :'[.

It sounds very much like a neurological problem, rather than a behavioural problem as such. I would be worried about something affecting his cerebral cortex, as this is typically the site of the problem when an animal's mental state is altered. It is possible that he may have a brain tumour, but there are a number of other diseases that could be causing this (and some ARE treatable).
If your own vet has no idea what is going on, ask if he/she is willing to refer you to a specialist clinic, or go to see another vet. Your dog is going to need a workup- usually a general clinical & neurological exam, bloods, and then possibly imaging such as CT or MRI.
Good luck. I hope you find an answer and get your old dog back as you put it. Vets can do almost as much for animals these days as human specialists can for us, so stay positive. Please feel free to email me if you want.

I just had a dog that was a half boxer mix too. He had a growth on his nose that the vet said was an absessed tooth. He had a seizure about 3 months after the prognosis and he acted like that. Bumped into things, was dazed looking, didn't seem like he could see. I think he had a brain tumor and we had to shoot him after one hellish night. My parents also had a dog (golden retriever) that acted like that but had a stroke. I think I'd go back to my vet and ask him to take a brain xray. I had a pitbull once and he never acted like that. I'm sorry it sounds so sad, but, I would seriously look into this, cuz something is very wrong. Hope everything works out, cuz I love my dogs too!

You might could have a vet check it to be sure it is not sick in some way causing it to act out but this is what I have been talking about people mixing these dogs just to get rich that they have not or could not even do research to see what the genes of these mix breed will do once they are mixed what the long term come out will be for these poor dogs and what the owner will have to go through you might try putting it in a training class this might help

I've had many dogs over the years and know how worried you must be.
None of my dogs have ever shown those symptoms. I can only suggest a trip to another vet for a second opinion. It's obvious that there's something serious wrong and perhaps the first vet missed it. Even the best vets can make an innocent mistake
Get him to the vet ASAP..
Good luck to you and your dog.

There is something wrong with your dog. Go to another vet. The dog could have a brain problem and attack someone. Any dog that runs into furniture is not suffering from anxiety. (as someone said)
He needs blood work done and an MRI of his body, including the head. Get him help tomorrow. I would not wait one day longer. He has got to be very miserable. Please get the poor animal help.

how old is your mix? dogs do get mental illness... also some allergies can affect behavior. easy to try nutro's lamb and rice kibble b/c its for allergies an if the dog is having a reaction to something in his food this may really help ! good luck.

He sounds like he is having anxiety/boredom. How much exercise do you give him each day? Have you had blood tests done to rule out any infections of the fluid surrounding the brain? If all has come up normal, try switching up his routine and take him somewhere new to play and give him challanging toys (like those that you put treats in and they must roll around). See if that helps. Good luck

This definitely sounds like a medical problem. Please get a referral to a good vet asap. It could be a vision issue, a tumor, or other issues which need to be addressed.

hmm that's really weird. i would get a second opinion from a different veterinarian, or take the dog to a veterinary specialist.
if everything has been ruled out medically, see if your veterinarian has phone numbers in your area of animal trainers or behaviorists.
