I want to make a dish for Thanksgiving, but my family didn't seem polite and said I'm too busy, I'm not that busy that I can't stop and make a pie. It's my first holiday with my two children and I would like to make something that my 2 yr old and 7 month old would eat. I want a dish that my children will fall in love with. I'm a good cook, but not a chef. It's like they refuse to let me bring in something.

If they don't want to impose, HOORAY FOR YOU! Your family has the good sense to know that having two small children is a lot of work. Make something by all means, and bring it. But remember...don't do once that which you are not willing to do 1000 times. (Anotherwords, do you want to bring pie every year? the answer may be yes.).

Also, know that holidays change, especially with kids. Your turn to have it at YOUR house is coming sooner than you may think. You might just want to enjoy being a guest and taking care of your kids.

Happy Holidays.

I make mini pumpkin pies for my kids. They love them! And they are so simple to make.

You just take ready made pie dough from the store and cut them into circles and mold them around the bottom of a greased muffin/cupcake pan. (To form lil bowls). Prick the bottom of the dough with a fork all over, and make sure they are molded good. Bake in the oven with the pan upside down so the lil bowls are up. Bake til nice and brown.

Then take a can of pumpkin pie filling, follow directions for making a pie but just add the filling into the completed mini pie bowls. Bake til set. Then take some mini marshmellows, line a few up on the top and place in oven til marshmellows are lightly browned.

Consider making a FUN meal!
%(My perspective) K.I.S.S. Keep It Simple and Sweet.
On a SIMPLICITY (but healthy) idea, consider making a HOBO STEW.
This involves simple ingredients that you already have in your kitchen; Potatotes, carrots, other healthy greens, and a soup base, with added meat(s.) - Be CREATIVE! You might create such a memorable meal that it will become a family favorite
GOOD LUCK!

I just think its great that you want to make something for the kids, no matter what the rest of the family says.

Way to be a great mommy

if you're bringing dessert... i don't think you're kids will be too picky!!

bring dessert, i think you're family is maybe just being polite in their way and want to make everything themselves. they want to treat you and your family and don't want you to lift a finger.

make pumpkin cheesecake! i'm sure if you did a google search you'll find a lot. besides, a pumpkin cheesecake will kick butt over a plain pumpkin pie

green bean casserole
mashed potatoes
dinner rolls
fruit tray (with melted chocolate for dip)
vegie tray (if you have the time turn vegies into flowers)
deviled eggs
cinnamon rolls with caramel icing
jello jigglers (use cookie cutters to make different shapes)
make candy (I buy melting chocolate and different flavors to add to the chocolate and use sucker molds)
