What happened to the large families of years ago (among the religious folks)?

the 5 rabbi's at my shul have a combinded 11+10+6(7th coming!)+6(just had one)+3(just had one, and only married for like 5 years, mother is daughter of the mother of ten) so 37.

It's a natural tendency that occurs with industrialized nations they go through a change in survival rates that out number deaths and there's a population boom. In America the Baby boomer's where the result. Cultural practices such as the number of children parents have lag behind these trends and took 10 to 20 years to balance out as they have today as our population has returned to a much more stable yet still slowly increasing.

with the advent of needing 2 incomes to support a family families got samller. When I was young people got along well on one person working but when woman entered the work place the demand for labor went down and so in the end this is what we get.

Seriously, I don't like to use the term religious. I perfer the term relationship which is what we have with the Father through Jesus.

Many of which are probably deceased. Additionally, many people today are changing their religions because they are recognizing that what they once believed was not according to the Bible. Moreover, many people are angry with what religion has done over the years and as a result, people stop coming.

It's called birth control and realistically gauging how many children you can afford to feed. Last thing we need is a bunch of God-fearing welfare artists feeding from the public trough.

a lot of people just thought how much richer would they be if they only had one child thats what some people say but personally we dont really know every one was in different situations back then and we cant judge them on their choices because they were in a different situation to us

I am not that religious or that crazy. Two children is all I can handle. Being fruitfull and multiplying just doesn't add up.

Seriously, in olden days you counted on children to provide for your late days. Now there's no such need.
