What the hell does you being an Indian have to do with it? And I thought you could win up to ten grand before you were taxed.

If you are a Native American Indian, then no. But if you are an Indian citizen, i.e from India, then YES. You are not subject to U.S. tax laws.

I've won in Vegas before, and been subjected to the "withholding" tax they impose. I simply got help from certain services that operate in my home country of Canada, and recovered 80% of the garnished winnings. It took time, and of course, a certain degree of compensation to the agency that helped me out, but it was worth it. Check with your own government, or perhaps legal firms in your homeland as to how to pursue any action to recover your winnings.

I believe the tax is local and there is no way you can recover the money you have been taxed.

It's the same as most other things you would buy. The tax is charged on purchase (winning) and is depedant on state tax rates which are charged at the time of purchase (winning). It does not matter where you are from, the tax is paid to the state you are in.
