Check with your pediatrician about starting him on vitamins. Keep him away from cigarette smoke. not only can 2nd hand smoke cause their immune systems to be lower, it can also cause asthma. Also, if he's getting sick this much, I would venture to guess maybe something more is going on. It's comming up on flu and cold season, and if he's already getting sick this much ..... I can only imagine what the next 3 or 4 months will be like for you.

Does he get ear infections with these? My daughter was getting sick like that until she had tubes put in her ears. She's been sick free since January.

Vitamin C is the natural and, in my opinion, best way to help build up the immune system.

Oh My God! I am so glad someone is asking this question!!!!!! I am the mother of a 6 month old and I am a nurse. I quit working to stay home with my son and to make extra money I babysit between 1-3 kids every day (depending on parent's schedule). These kids are ALWAYS and I mean ALWAYS sick...to the point that I don't let my son anywhere near them EVER. He's never even touched these kids. It's horrible!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've been watching these kids for months now and yet my son has yet to get sick. The reason? Because I don't allow him in contact with the nasty little sick kids. They have different play areas in my home, including toys. These kids have had everything from roseola, to colds, to strep and yet my child hasn't had so much as a booger in his nose. You need to eliminate whoever he's contacting those illnesses from. I will not even so much as pick up my baby unless I've scrubbed my hands. I do realize I may be over the top, but my kid won't have frequent colds every 15 days either. (I also am still exclusively breastfeeding, which helps). Good Luck to you and for heavens sake---- if your kid IS sick, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE don't send him to the babysitters or daycare.....you're just as bad as the people who're infecting your kid. I swear I send home one of the kids I watch every other day.

A little combined wisdom--I hope-- from my sister and myself, and a few others....

1. A little bit of fever should be allowed to happen. This is the body's way of defending itself. Use cool drinks and cool water (a cold cloth, or a cool or tepid bath is they feel like getting into the tub) to try to reduce fever before giving kids meds (like aspirin or tylenol). If the fever gets above 102, I would give a tablet. If a child is feverish and fussy for extended periods of time and/or seems to be having neck pain, always calll a doctor right away!!

2. My sister keeps a clean pillowcase on the pillow when her kids are sick. Not really an immunity building thing--just the opposite, i guess--but it does help to cut down on long sicknesses. They don;t reinfect themselves....

3. 2 F's: fresh air and fruit--
If it's not too cold, keep the windows open. Fresh air blowing through keeps things from getting stuffy, moves germs along, etc. Once again, not sure how this would fit with building immunity, but I'm thinking that it couldn't hurt as far as increasing wellness.

Most fruit contains enough acid to help combat minor disturbances in the body chemisty. It also provides a relatively healthy sweet flavor, is cooling, and helps to keep H20 in the system. Which leads me to...

4. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Give them lots of water to drink. Not only does water help the body to function more effectively, it supposedly increases the capacity for learning and thinking. Also, if you want immunity, think of all the variables of drinking water-- a small amount of exposure to different kinds of substances. That's what builds immunity.

5. The nurse who lived across the street from us when my son was small told us that most people know to keep dirty hands away from their mouths, but that it;s not as well-known that the nose can be an entry point for germs as well. Just one more reason not to mess around with your nose!

6. I've seen lots of plugs for yogurt here. Maybe the unique qualities of yogurt set it apart from most dairy products, AND in my experience, dairy products in general (shellfish too, but for different reasons) do not agree with a person who has a cold or fever. Dairy products produce mucus in the body, a favorite home for germs. This is not true to the same extent for everyone, but I have noticed it in myself.

7. Handwashing doesn't really build immunity either, but it does help cut down on disease. Washing hands after using the bathroom is a good idea... unless you're at home, having a real good time, have only done #1, and are not going to eat or touch food that others will eat. Even if the bathroom you use is clean, these handwashings through the day will clean away lots of germs you pick up doiong everyday activities.

8. I agree with the folks who suggested that a trip to the pediatrician might be in order, esp. with this frequency.

9. If someone--child or adult-- is stopped up and has trouble breathing, you can put a few drops of eucalyptus oil in a sink or pan (or whatever) of very hot water to create a steam that when inhaled will ease the congestion.

10. if you can be home with a sick child, this can be a fun and cozy time. There is a Spanish phrase for it, "la ___ dolce"? or someting like that. It refers to the tender feelings a parent has for a sick child and the sweetness of having a loving parent bring ginger ale, read stories, watch favorite movies with you, make special food, draw pictures, etc.

Are you sure he isn't having allergies that then trun into a fever? My daughter had them very bad. She would have allergies, croup,bronchitits,throw up and diarreah in the same order every time. She took allergy shots and was allergic to sooo many things,especially the antibiotics for the illnesses. You probably need to have him tested. It could be just dust and you can learn to clean the house, especially his room for the dust problem. Your house is probably clean but dust is there,everywhere. I take cranberry capsules to help my immunity system and take vit c during cold seasons. Try to keep him away from sick kids and teach him to wash his hands and not put them into his mouth if he is sharing toys at daycare.Best wishes!

I doubt it's just a cold. Has he been checked for allergies? What about ear infections? Get him to the doctor ASAP to check.

My daughter was sick all the time and all the symptoms she had were like a cold (runny nose, sneezing, coughing, etc). But it turns out she kept getting ear infections. Once she had surgery to get tubes in her eardrums she hasn't had any symptoms. She also is allergic to pollen so in the spring she's got all the same symptoms.

If chronic ear infections are the culprit, I do suggest the surgery, my daughter has been perfectly fine since. If he has allergies ask for a prescription antihistamine (you could give him OTC Benadryl but that tends to make them more drowsy than a RX).

if it's not ear infections or allergies, I couldn't suggest anything else, but get to a doctor ASAP to figure it out!

The immune system is strengthened through vitamins and proteins...a well balanced diet will go a long way. that means no candy for dinner. Start giving him oranges (vitamin C), apples, apple sauce, pure orange juice (instead of that sweet 2% juice), milk, eggs, yogart, etc. It would help if you bought him some kids vitamins like the Flinstone ones.

I get the same way. The change in temperature outdoors could have an impact on it. Vitamins, orange juice, yogurt. Have him/her take the vitamins everyday (just be sure to get them the proper dosage), an oj for breakfast, and maybe a yogurt for a snack later in the day.

Make sure he is getting like 100% vitamin C it helps with most immune reactions and needs to be replenished every day.

giv him Waterburesys Compound, thats a very good health tonic that help him keep away cold etc. giv him on daily basis also Codliver oils tablets are very good for growing kids
do not completely keep him away from cold stuff , but get dicipline in his life let him enjoy life with precautionary measures
