no..its a form of self-expression....tattooing and piercing were once something that africans and other religions did this as a religious rite-of-passage.....now a days....piercings and tattoos are a fashion statement.....and a form of self-expression. Some people get tattoos, because they think they are cute....some people get them because they use it to heal themselves of mental pain. I have tattoos and piercings...I dont think its a sin. If it is...I wanna see the place where it says that I want page numbers....and verses and the exact book it DIRECTLY came from....ans miss murder is right...the bible is very contridictary....it will tell u not to do something, but in another book...it will be completely different.....not some hallelujah person babbling about how its a sin.

No, I do not believe so... and I have a wonderful, powerful loving relationship with God, and have already looked over ths times before.
See, people have ALWAYS thrown that in my face, since I said I was going to be a tattooist when I was a small child, and they only pick portions from the bible.
Most throw the part where God sends the group to wander in the desert as a punishment, and everyone uses the line that 'they may not mark upon the body' or what not...
Okay, yes, that was in there, That was in the passage to the chosen people, their limit, and punishment, who had to wander in the desert for 40 years, the line right next to the 'do not mark upon. line, said NOT TO CUT THE HAIR ON THE HEAD OR SIDE OF THE FACE...
Hm, do people that try to shove that line in my face? Yes, so I guess, If you do that, than you're equally bad... (?) Right? Is that the logic.. If you follow that SAME passage so much with tattoos, then you must follow all of it, correct..? No. They don't. I think people mostly just hate them, and like to interpret and use only tidbits and use God in their arguments... (or that's what they are raised to believe, or they're just the religious people that make good followers of God look really bad) they choose only parts of the book to get your point across. That is low and very cheap and wrong.
People even do a lot of things the bible says not to, but apparently because they don't have body modifications...that they can do it, but tattooed people are bad?
People yell that passage to me, and I tell them that line, but they just ignore it. You can't pick and choose what to use.
Try something else..That won't work..
EDIT: yes, most of them are contradictory. They get their ears pierced, but dangerously, with a gun. Going to a piercer to get it done right is bad, to them, though? Professionals are much safer. Um, I cannot get my lip pierced, but they can have their lobes pierced?
It's just the common hipocracy of the ignorant and hateful..

It all depends on how you feel about them. Personally to me getting a tattoo is showing who you are and the trials in life that you have been through. Your body can be a canvas, and your able to decorate it as you please. Tattooing is an art form it can be viewed either way, same goes for body piercings. But if your religious beliefs say it is a sin then it should be up to you to say if it is a sin or not.

In alot of ancient religions tattoo's are anything but a "sin" think about some of the oldest and most traditional religions there is.. e.g. buddhism.. , Think of small tribes that used to live in the middle of jungles thousands of years ago that tattoo'd themselves to show ranking amoungst the tribes etc.. these people were around before christianity and probably had 100's of individual beliefs.. Christianity is quiet a new concept in terms of religion, and quiet frankly I don't understand how tattoo's and body modifications can be considered a sin when the practice was around before the religion?? go figure!!

No... BUT, it CAN be a sin, depending if you have "conviction" about it. The bible DOES talk about the body being the temple of God. In other words, you shouldn't do anything harmful to your body. Tattoos contain ink that goes right into your bloodstream. Too much of it might turn out to be reeeeal bad. I think it's a personal decision, though. God doesn't say that tattoos are a sin.

Some people will surely view this as a taboo question , however I say NO , I personally got 1 of my piercings done at a religious tat and piercing parlor . Their motto is that Christ was pierced (meataphorically) at the stake for our sins.. It was clean, signs everywhere warning you of languge, and played Christian pop-rock music.

Haven't seen it mentioned in the Bible per say (but in Isaiah 3:18-21 it does talk about 'nose rings') unless I over looked it, but some of this 'adornment' was done because of "pagan worship", the main reason why God/Jesus said not to follow these 'trends'. Tattooing (found in Lev. 19:28) follows along those same lines, 'painting' of the body for worshiping of false gods, and other things which took mankind's focus off of God, and gave it to the devil.

Im a Christian and I have piercings. I have my lip and tongue pierced. I know that in the bible it states that you shouldnt mark on your body because its a temple of God. I know alot of Christians with their ears pierced, many of which have told me 'If God wanted you to have extra holes in yourself he would have put them there' but they have their ears pierced...whats the difference besides the location of the piercing. I would say tattoos are but piercings arent. Its all depending on how you view it.

I say no, but I'm sure some people will argue otherwise.
I believe body mods to be self expression and a way of showing the world who you are without having to do or say much. I think it's fine and healthy as long as you do it for youself and not because its popular or because others think you should do it.
