Well first off, if you want the best then don't by a Kenwood cd player from Walmart. The only Kenwoods worth a damn are the excelon series, or go with Eclipse, Pioneer (regular or Premier), or even Alpine. Now as far as the subs, amps, and speakers I can tell you some good manufacturers, but I cant really tell you which would sound best because my ears and your ears might perceive good as different.
For speakers: Polk Audio, Infinity, Eclipse, Pioneer Rev series. High end: Focal, MB Quart, Boston, Nakamichi
Subs: JL Audio, MTX, Kicker, Audiobahn, Eclipse, Memphis, Hifonics, Diamond Audio, Pioneer Premier, Fosgate (P3s and up), the list goes on and on.
Amps: pretty much the same as the subs, but also Precision Power, Soundstream
all the sub manufacturers also make pretty decent speakers.
Your best bet is to shop around and listen to as many different systems as you can, but make sure you use a cd you are familiar with when comparing them.

The best for cheap would be the 12" power acoustic fubar subwoofer on a lt1920 power acoustic amp I did this in an altima at my shop and was incredible. Although the box was custom they would still sound good in a prefab box. total cost will be around 350-450.
Isn't the best but great for the money. If I told you the best you would have to take out a loan and I don't know too many people willing to do that.
Plus if you do a huge huge system you will have to consider putting a bigger alternator on and that can get somewhat expensive.

which ever brand/brands that sound best to you. but i will tell you this. "the best" cannot be found at wal-mart or best buy, or any other national store that also sells washers and dryers. they just dont carry good, top of the line stuff. go to a private audio store. thats where the really good stuff is.
