I suppose in a perfect world, a democracy in Iraq would be nice. The whole thing has gone down the toilet, too many Americans are getting killed, and really, are the Iraqi people better off now than they were under Saddam Hussein? With civil war looming, this has become a quagmire for Bush. Personally, I think he's keeping the troops there to save face. The second a democrat becomes President... you know where I'm going here. It's funny, but that drunk SOB Ted Kennedy was right when he said (two years ago!) that this war will become another Vietnam. I'd like some of what he's drinking.

He means, we have to defeat the terrorism that is trying to stop a democratic government from controlling the well being of the people of Iraq. If we do not achieve thise victory, we are admitting defeat to terrorists, which will open the doors to even more attacks on the U.S. than those that happened under the clinton administration.

One of the biggest holdups is SADDAM IS STILL ALIVE. (IMHO of course) but I think about 50 % of the problems will disappear with his demise. I also think his followers haven't even gotten a good start at trying to put him back in power.
Without a "strongman" government like Saddam Iraq will become three clarical states. Which will be at war with eachother for the next 2 thousand years.
And Bush has no idea of what he means when he says "we will achieve victory in Iraq"

Well, please do not take this negative.
Victory in Iraq: wow best question i have seen tonight!!! bar none
BUT:
The true question is IMO: Would we as Americans like another form of government to be instilled on us by military force??
Sure, we can blame the Insurgents? blame the terrorists?? Heck blame the world...75% of the troops in IRAQ are American!
Honestly...no offense to our British allies.brothers.sisters...but they tried it before the revolutionary war. The King tried to set LAWS etc for the colonists. That we did not agree with? So, we fought them to our freedom from foreign aggression. did we not?
Put the terrorism aside...blame not them for the problems in Iraq..But blame a failed policy...here from the beginning.
In NO time of history has a FOREIGN power been able to FORCE their government teachings onto another country. not even the ROMANS in all their glory..they too finally realized you can own a country and you can rule a country. but you can NEVER control a country that wishes not to be subdued. can we say the GAULS...but that is for another topic!
Thanks

President Bush wants to stabilize the country, make sure the men are well trained, and help the people get back on their feet. That would be a victory.
