She won't look you in the eye because she loves you and respects you.
In feline body language a look in the eye signifies hostility; it's a challenge and a threat. Two unfamiliar cats seeking to establish a heirarchy will have a staring contest, and whichever one blinks or looks away first loses, acknowledging the other's superiority.
Your kitty's unwillingness to look you in the eye is, to some degree, a signal of her submissiveness towards you, but more importantly it's a sign of courtesy and respect.
Incidentally, this relates to the reason why cats in a room full of strangers, such as might happen if you have a lot of friends over for a party, will tend to gravitate to the person in the group who doesn't like cats. People look at things they like, so the ones who like cats will look at kitty, which kitty interprets as rude and perhaps challenging. The one who doesn't like cats won't look right at kitty much, if at all, and she'll interpret that as courtesy and respect, so she'll go to them.

even with what some human beings would say that you've experienced him to do it, i want to imagine that cats DO understand you and prefer to furnish affection. We 'communicate ' to our cats continuously and they'll often times answer decrease back. yet like some solutions have suggested till now me, cats will provide affection on THIER words, so he's in all likelihood operating away reason he became int he center of something important (like staring on the chook accross the line) and also you interrupted him, yet he nonetheless needs to allow you to comprehend he loves you too. savor it even as you are able to, some cats dont teach any affection in any respect and we'd want to continually count number ourselves fortunate that we do!

Oh I don't know that. All cats I ever have always look at me in the eye. They didn't stare but when I talk to them or smile at them, they will look at me in the eye and meow. female or male, kitten or adult, they all do this. Hope your kitty is OK

Yes this is perfectly normal. It is a submissive thing as you have said. To continue to look at you means to her that she is threatening you and she could never do that to the one who loves and feeds her.

had a simular situation....with 3 cats and one submiss.... it's totally her position.....I don't know if you can change this, but if you can make her the "alpha" female, you will see a drastic change....funny she's being submiss....generally a pissed off female feline tears stuff up! :)

Cats consider eye contact with humans to be insulting. Sorry. She feels it is an insult to her to look you in the eye. Nothing personal, just stuck up cat behavior.

BY NOT LOOKING AT YOU SHE FEELS SAFE OR HAS YOUR ATTENTION WHEN SHE NEEDS IT AND SHE KNOWS IT
IF I GIVE MY CATS ALOT OF ATTENTION NONE OF THEM LOOK AT ME IN MY EYES BUT SAY IF I WAS TO GO AWAY ALL DAY THEN COME HOME AND DONT GIVE THEM LOVE AS SOON AS I WALK IN THEY STARR AT ME UNTIL I DO
SO THIS GOOD SHE FEELS SAFE AND CONTENT.

She thinks you are going to hypnotize it. Poor thing.
Sometimes you have to keep a bit of distance away for it to look at you or maybe it doesn't know where your head is because you're tall.
