The actual term is "poisoner" And, even the Rabbis are not sure where this "commandment" came from as it is out of context with the rest of the passages and in an odd syntax. But the thought that the scriptures have been tampered with sometime before the Babylonian captivity is never conceived of.

I have seen where the Hebrew states it is a Poisoner. But you are right, Witch has a bad tone to it, but if they took a look at where the word came from and what it meant then, they would probably understand the term used today a little better. Yes, the word was changed to Witch... most of such changes was done by King James... well, the scholars and such he had working for him (he started out with close to 50 and ended up only using like 13? I think... not sure on that last #) He was terrified of "witches" because of the witch craze that was going on. King James wrote a book of his own, before he had the Bible "put into the hands of the common people" (which I believe is one of the biggest reasons that Bible is popular). His book was called Daemonologie. From what little I know of the book, he supposedly lays bare what he's really afraid of.
The sad thing is, all of the info about witches we have today, is directly from the Roman Catholic Church. Some of the images of witches were dropped... I would hope people today know that witches do not fly on brooms? But the idea that they summon demons in order to gain power... I would think there would be demons everywhere then... seems to hang on.

Warlock/sorcerer neither word is correct. There is no such a thing. Witches are correct, those are people who follow some Pagan faiths.
Catholics and christians will always label something evil when they do not understand it. Generally and historical the bible is not changed due to the catholics and christians wish it so. It is changed at the whims of the pope or bishop that is in power at the time. If he is misinformed regarding the facts at the time these mistakes will remain in the bible regardless of its gravity. Unfortunately too many catholics and christians blindly follow the faith and will read into this misinformation as fact.

Uh, hello. The original text that contains that phrase was in HEBREW, and the word in HEBREW is translated into POISONER. The reason why it says thou shalt not suffer a POISONER to live is because back then there were a lot of Jews being poisoned. It NEVER said anything about a sorcerer or a witch. That was put in the when King Jimmy whined and threatened everybody so he could have his own bible. You need to get your facts straight, because you are totally wrong.

Witch was the word given by the sorcerer or wizard as the last right before his paying clients had to chose for the last time....the magic spell or real life. They just became to be known as the whictchs. Had nothing whatsoever to do with any chruches at that time. And gods polocy for that is inacted still..meaning..that rule about owing a sorcerer a debt for a gift...is still worthy of punishment. Thats all.

And I found this:
"22:18. Wizards thou shalt not suffer to live.
Maleficos non patieris vivere"
King James was against women who practised abortions, probably that was the reason. Lots of women lost their lives in the Medieval witch hunts just because of their looks or they were a "crazy cat lady" (oh, your looks caused me to sin! you must therefore be a witch!) (oh, that woman has warts on her face, she does spells with toads!) (everyone knows that cats are worshipped as false gods by the Egyptians!)
People had all kinds of odd notions. Thank God for enlightenment, knowledge, peace and tolerance. If you don't like the King James version, get another one.

Who cares, if there was a God I'm sure there would be more proof than a book that anybody could have written.
I feel bad for the people that live their life by the Bible.
Though I have nothing against religious people, but you might as well just praise grasshoppers, they ARE real.

...Didn't you kind of answer your own question.
No, it really doesn't make me think... mostly, because I don't care.
If you're a sorceror, or witch, you likely don't believe most of what the bible says, so what's it matter?
And, if you're a christian (or Catholic) with a stick that far up your bottom, you probably dont' know any sorcerors, or witches.

sorceress. it was changed to witch b/c of incorrect translation. The way they refer to god as male is also wrong b/c the Jewish word Yahweh is actually supposed to mean male and female
