oh boy do i have a great answer for you!

go to walmart. in the sporting goods section they will have sport mouthguards. get the youth size. drop it in boiling water for about 10 seconds, remove (shake the excess water off - it will help cool it down a bit). put guard in your mouth and bite down. leave it there for about 10-15 seconds. spit it out. you now have a perfect fitting mouth guard that is custom fitted for your mouth.

hint: put it in your mouth before you drop it in the hot water to see if you need to shorten the length of the guard. if so, simply cut with kitchen scissors.

oh, did i mention??? THEY ONLY COST 99 CENTS!

one more tip - when you can't wear your guard, put your tongue on the roof of your mouth as if you were trying to hold a lifesaver candy up there. it takes the pressure off your jaw!

OK, you say you can't afford it in one sentence but in the other you say you tried it...and it falls out of your mouth. You are confusing me, girl.

I have a night guard that was custom-made for my teeth. It is not too bulky and certainly it doesn't fall out of my mouth because it is fitted. Not like I could really afford it, but it is worth saving money for and getting it custom made. If yours was suctom made - take it back to your dentist and tell them that it falls out and needs to be re-done or adjusted.

There is nothing you can do to stop grinding by will power of whatever. You just can't.

Have all of your teeth removed.

Just kidding. I got one of those dental guards from my dentist once. It annoyed me, and I'd take it out of my mouth during my sleep without even knowing it.

It didn't help me one bit. I honestly don't know of anything else you could use. I have found that taking advil can help when your jaw gets sore from grinding your teeth, though.

Good luck.

I know it can be a result of stress, and so my best inexpensive guess would be to modify your daily habits somehow to make them less stressful. Though, it sounds easier than it actually its.
