I just want some tips on what reel, motor, and other equipment i would have to buy to have a nice fishing experience at a local academy or walmart. this will be done in the gulf of mexico not deep sea fishing just at the mouth of the river for some free time. If you can include prices I would really apreciate it.

Ok this may sound like an expensive situation but here it is; 435 Hornet Trophy boat, with and yamaha 40 outborad motor $24,000, Silstar power tip PF -561 SWM rod $220, then obviously your bait - worms work best. You will be able to use it all when you retire too, so it won't be a waste of money. I hope it helps

I fish alot here but not in the gulf of mexico. I have fished there though. Ask the locals they know and you probubly will have a better time that way, cause of sesons, whats running, and stuff like that. Good luck!

For this type of fishing, I'd suggest a Spinning combo such as a Pflueger Medalist®/Cabela's Salt Striker™ Inshore Spinning Combo from http://www.cabelas.com (item# IG-121031)

Add to that a spool of Berkley Trilene XT Extra Tough Line in 14lb Breaking Strain (Item:IG-112883)..... $14.99 for a 1000yrd spool, but with fishing line it's not one of the things you want to skimp on when it comes to quality.

I also suggest a few packets of BERKLEY Cross-Lok snapswivels to enable quick changes of lures and rigs.... these are regarded as the most reliable and highest quality you can get (only trouble is I've found it's an absolute pain in the *** trying to find anyone who actually stocks them)
http://www.berkley-fishing.com/cat.php?k=48526&sk=48513

For lures I highly recommend both STORM LURES (http://www.stormlures.com/) & Panther-Martin (http://www.panthermartin.com)

when boat fishing, whether it be on a river, lake, estuary or sea.... an absolute must have is a lifejacket, in case you accidently end up going for a swim - look them up on the BOATING section of http://www.cabelas.com (where you'll find a host of other items to boot).

You may want to consider investing in a fishfinder.... they won't necessarily put more fish on your hook, but will give you a better idea of where to look to try and catch them.

In the case of a smaller boat, you'll probably be wanting a motor to move you from place to place..... but you'll also want a pair of oars to get you back to safety in the event the motor screws-up on you + either a handheld radio or your cellphone in case you need to send for help (e.g. you end up getting washed out to sea, or the boat gets flipped over or something).
You'd probably be best choosing a metal / fibreglass or wooden boat over an inflatable, as I've read on various fishing messageboards that some people find them a bit unnerving if you put a fair bit of gear in there (slightly sag in the middle)...... but if you do go for a solid boat, you may want to put some old carpet down on the floor to absorb vibrations from your feet and / or fishing gear clattering around down there (which will very likely scare all the fish away, seeing as sound & vibrations travel 5times further/faster underwater).
