It is cast, and it should hold the 175 shot, I know quite a few stock bottom ends driving around with the same setup, and run at the strip on the weekend. It should hold the 175 as long as it isn't showing any sign of wear now, such as knocking or low oil pressure.

These ASE Guys saying 36 years ASE has not been around that long maybe 18 years it used to be IGO NOT ASE, any motor will do it for a while , but anytime you alter a motor you cannot ever complain if you throw a rod OK, the real race cars overhaul their motors every race so if your not doing that you just waiting for a place to happen , racing street cars and then using them for daily driving is dumb, & unsafe & stupid, just speaking in genral.(no offence), and a big wast of cash not to mention you get caught street racing now you lose your ride and they crush em if you don't kill someone or your self, them you get the bars on your windows , be smart stay alive keep all on the real track, you are not doing anything that has not already been done before, been there, you can or will lose it all in the long run

it will handle it but I suggest replacing those head gaskets with Mr. Gasket unltra seal gaskets. The 5.0 came stock with forge pistons in that year. 1986 to 1991 or 92 cant remember right off hand

If it is a stock block, it is a cast block. But go ahead and have some fun, you can always pick up another 5.0 for cheap.
