if it's bright red blood, it means the wound is near the anus. if it's a one time thing, don't worry, esp that you say it was just a small amount of blood. it was just something hard or a bit too sharp for her skin. if it becomes a regular thing, see a doctor, but ask her to be ready with questions about her diet (what she eats, does she drink too little fluids, etc), about her poop-habits, etc.
how to avoid? eat high fiber foods.

A little blood is actually pretty normal, and happens on the occasion. Unless it happens constantly or a lot of blood occurs, don't worry. Relax. Your friend is fine and shouldn't worry and neither should you.

If it was bright red, it is nothing to get excited about. She was probably a bit constipated and the size of her poop caused a little tear.
Unless she had been having unprotected anal sex? In that case---she should get checked for Sexually Transmitted Disease. And so should her partner.

the anus is composed of very thin skin tissue.. its possible her turd may have been a little to big and tore the lining of her anus causing the blood.. tell her not to be concerned unless it happens frequently..good luck.

If the blood was red, then she's probably fine. You didn't mention if she is having any pain.

if it happens once or twice a month it's just because your poop is hard...eat more fruits and veggies. if it happens every day or VERY frequently go see a doctor. :D
