I want to know if my boyfriend needs to go thorugh the circumsicion process in order to convert to Judaism? Is it mandatory? He's scared about it since it is the only way we could get married within the faith. I want to know if anybody has an experience to share and how did you face it?

yes one of the conditions to converting is having a circumsicion. i personally couldnt walk for a year after i had my brit mila (i also got it when i was eight days old). however i was in ukraine for two years, and i saw many kids, adults, teens go through the proccess and noone ever regretted doing it.

Yes he has to get circumcised and will only be considered a Jew if he converts through an Orthodox conversion. Reform and Conservative conversions don't count.

There are a few qualifications needed to convert.
One qualification is being circumcized.
Another qualification is that the person is not doing for alterior motives (e.g. for a jewish spouse). As such, it is illogical and impossible for your boyfriend to convert "so that you can get married". It saddens me to have to tell you this, but I suggest you date jewish guys.

unless he goes though a reform conversion which is not recognized by other Jewish body except their own he will need a bris.

Personally I suggest two options either one you date someone who is already Jewish or two marry the guy in a civil wedding under the condition that you will raise your children in a Jewish enviorment and with a Jewish education.

Just explain to him that it is done by someone who is blindfolded with a dull ax.

That should put him at ease.
