Passing gas while in public is very embarrassing. Why draw attention to yourself. If we lived in a society that didn't put taboos on such ordinary bodily functions people would probably be less uptight. If I had the time I would tell you about an experience my aunt and uncle had with a couple from another country.

How did you keep your laughter in? I really do it all the time at stores and just walk fast. Unfortunately in an elevator, you're stuck, just try to keep a straight face, or be the first to have a disgusted look on your face and look around like it was the guy next to you. Never ADMIT to it!!! :-)

Nope, just look at the person next to you and hold your nose, like everyone else in the elevator. No reason to give yourself away, unless it was really loud, in that case you gave yourself away already, so, oh well, more room out than in.

other people smell bad just by themselves...i've never had an elevator ride that was pleasant smelling.

LOL! That is too funny! My husband will do that in a store while in front of me, then walk away. By the time I get to the offending area, it stinks! Then everyone around thinks its me.

Excusing yourself can have its regrets, but it is the socially responsible thing to do. Personally, if I were in your place I would have waited to see if it effected my nose--if it did, I would have definitely excused myself--if not, I would have let it go.
