I have found that it make me more stuffier, maybe its the sulfites, but that is what happens to me whenever I drink wine.

That is a good question...and since I don't play a doctor on TV, I will just answer as a simple layman.
Let's reason this out :-)
1. Red wine is no worse than any other alcoholic beverage in terms of interaction with a cold.
2. Cough syrup contains alcohol
3. Therefore red wine must be no worse than cough syrup in the treatment of a cold.
Therefore we must conclude...bottoms up.
Hope you are just asking out of curiousity and aren't suffering through a cold. If so, might I recommend some Aquavit to clear what ails ya.

"More Benefits to Drinking Red Wine" (located near the bottom of the link page) is an article I came across. It is a study about a group of Spanish researchers that believe people who consume red wine are less likely to have colds. I know it doesn't answer your question, but it is interesting none the less.

No. In fact, alcohol is a cough suppressant. However, I find that if I drink too much, I do foolish things that can be harmful if you have a cold. For example, I talk a lot, and loudly, which is bad for my throat, and I stay up too late and don't get the rest I need. But one glass can't do any harm.

Yes...sometimes.
Red wine contains histamines (naturally...from the grape skins) which cause stuffiness.
So, if this is one of your symptoms, drink something else.
