The easiest way to remember this is to take the first two digits of the current year. Then add one (for zero A.D. to ninty-nine A.D) to that.

well, we are in the year 2006 21st century
1500 = 16th century
1600 = 17th century
1700 = 18th century
1800 = 19th century
1900 = 20th century
2000 = 21st century
2100 = 22 century, and so on
