A few portions of the Bible are extremely ancient: The Song of Deborah (Judges 5), for example, which portrays God as an air god akin to Zeus.
The Bible was not written for the most part until after the Babylonian captivity, although 2 Kings 22:8-11 refers to a copy of the Torah (Genesis to Deuteronomy) being read to the King of Judah, Josiah (640-609BC), and his returning to Judaism.
After the exile, the kingdoms of Judah and Israel were united and many of the books were written in their current form, reconciling two divergent tradions, somewhere around 539 BC, when Persia defeated Babylon, ending the exile.
The Dead Sea Scrolls date to roughly 150BC, when the Old Testament was closed. The accounts of the Maccabean revolt of that era, appear in some forms of the New Testament.
The various books of the New Testament were written between roughly 45AD and 140AD.
The Vulgate Latin bible was compiled by Saint Jerome from 382-406.
Though not the first English translation, the first edition of possibly the most important English translation, the King James Version, was completed in 1611.
My apologies for the rambling nature of this text, but I was trying to answer a question that has a broad answer. I am agnostic but see the document as revisioist history (predating Herodotus), and a fundamental basis of Western culture. It is akin to the Illiad as a history of the Trojan War.

That's a loaded question because there just not one bible in each religion there are many. I found this link perhaps this will help it. Its says it was created in BC.
I know that in a certain decade when Emperor Constantine took his trone, which was about the time the Knights of the Templar where taken over. All bibles that where written before that were suppose to be burned and then the new one emerged from this.
I have one of those survived bibles. It has been passed down from generation to generation.. Unfortunately I can't read it because its not in a language. I can read in some parts.. Others it is latin, arabic as well as glyphics.(sp)

The Bible was written over a period of 1400 to 1800 years by more than 40 different authors. I am less knowlegable about the construction of the OT but I just finished reading a couple of book on the NT. Many authors never claim to have known Jesus but claimed to have divine inspiration. Paul the earliest epistle writer of the OT claimed his knowledge was divinely given to him in visions. There were a number of Christian writings completed expousing a diversity of views about Christianity and the nature of Jesus before the Nicaea Council which decided the "official" version of Christianity in 325 AD. Quite awhile after Jesus was around.
What makes the Bible unreliable as literal truth to me? One, written by numerous authors, many claiming to be informed by divine revelations. How believable would that be to you today?
Two, numerous texts depicting divergent viewpoints evolved. Three, not until 355 AD for largely political motivations do we have an official consolidation of those writings those in power approved put into an official canon. Other works, such as the gnostic gospels were buried.

The first of the various (Jesus-oriented) scriptures was started at around 70AD, some estimates say.
The Old Testament was first printed in 1488 - before then it had to be manually rewritten each time, allowing plenty of opportunity to be rewritten, revised, added to or have parts removed from it, depending on the political motives of the king or government of the day.

5,600 years ago, so say the Jews.
They can document it going back at least 3,000+ years with Codex fragments and scroll fragments.
Why is everyone so obsessed with defeating an ideology and wanted to believe they were once an ape!
Boy, if I was once an ape, I would be bragging about it!
How come you're not out Getting Rid of Zoos, after all they imprision your grandparents!
Come on, why does man want to keep Apes penned up behind bars, so you can go there and look at what you once looked like and smelled and how you ate food!
I mean this is what all Commie Atheists are about. Subjugating humanity, forcing them at gunpoint to give up their beliefs for social betterment, brainwashing their kids into turning them in if they talk about sicko things like Easter or Christmas, have a strong standing army, a KGB and gulags to put people into when they exhbit "anti-scocial" behavior. Just like they do to Apes!
Athiest commies just love putting creatures they don't care much for behind bars.
Shall we get into the very sick history of ORganizaed Atheist, starting with the Bolshivek Revolution in Russia, STalin, the Imerpialistic annexation of Poland, Hungary, Romania, Serbai, Boznia, Croatia, East Germany
Then there's the Organized Atheist of China, led by Mao, who purged all Western influcences, collected all Western Musical instruments, made eveyrone wear gray uniforms
I know a Christian girl minister who just got released from a Chinese prision after being in there for something like 3 -5 years.
For what, preaching! That was her crime, talking about God and Jesus, they got her 3 - 5 years in prison.
Then there's the wonderful ATheist Commies of North Korea with their new A Bombs and Missles. Wonderful Godless creatures who can careless about anything or anyone.
The Wonderful Athiest Commies of Vietnam, who drafed 8 year old into the Ho Chi Min Army. That was on Oprah today. Oprah Winfrey's my source on that one. HAve a problem with Oprah?
Yes, all these wonderful, organized Atheists orgianzations in the world!
Making the world a better place by purging God out of Existance at the point of a gun if necessary!
Burning books.
Banning books.
Restricting waht you can see or read on the internet, least you do something antisocial like read an online Bible.
THIS, is the ATHEIST legacy.

Assuming you know what THAT means.
